I'm loving it. Didn't expect to! I think the Anna storyline is important in that it is honest. I also like Mary's new love interest. I think they are playing it better than I expected. The only downside is the Branson storyline. Seems a little convoluted/clunky to me! I also enjoy seeing Violet and Isobel become friends.

I agree. I don't like the Branson line because I feel like he has enough going on. I want to see how Mary handles the estate.

@T.H.O.U.: I feel like the Branson thing was like, either cobbled together, or just the beginning of all hell breaking loose for him. Like really, Mrs. Hughes just solved that problem for him? Come on! I think the maid must have done her math wrong if you know what I mean....otherwise that whole plot was totally pointless.
@heartonastring: I did see it! I actually liked it better than the week before. I didn't expect to. I really didn't like the first part of the second episode. Like, Anna is all flirty with the dude, and Bates immediately has his hacks up and is all defensive. It was so obvious what was going to happen! But once it did happen, what occurred after felt less plotted. Although some of the phrases she used seem like they are textbook. I know they are trying to be honest about history and abuse and how women felt, but I don't know if she would have been so explicit with Mrs. Hughes back in the day. Same thing with Branson's girl saying the word pregnant to both of them....
@mfa_lady: I'm an Edith hater! I can't help it. When she signed that contract without looking at it, I was secretly hoping she had somehow signed something totally awful.

Forgot that I am enjoying the Daisy storyline and hoping this means Daisy find her way out of DA and the rest of the kitchen staff look on in amazement!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: loving this season! I seriously got so upset about Anna. And poor Mr. Bates doesn't know...ugh! And Mary has to change her mind! He's so sweet!

Honestly, DA is not the same for me without Matthew. So far this season is kinda 'meh' for me... I mean, it's still very good, but I'm not enjoying it as much as the first 3 seasons.
Edna, I cannot stand. I hope that's the end of that storyline... I just don't like it.
Mary... I like how they are handling things with her... seems very believable. The guy was cute and sweet, but her husband just died 6 months (or so) earlier. I would have been annoyed if they had her moving so quickly.
The Anna storyline is good, though painful to watch. Not a real feel good story, but interesting to see how it would have been handled back then. I can understand why she doesn't want to tell Bates who did it, but I wish she could just tell him what happened so he doesn't think it's something he did.
I really like Edith... I hope it works out for her, but I have a bad feeling that it won't. Hope I'm proven wrong. I did like how he won back the money and earned some approval in the process.
What do you think of Rose? I'm not that into her yet...
I am also really enjoying Isobel and Violet.

@78h2o: I feel the same way with you on all points, especially Matthew! I would be so mad if they had her moving on so quickly.
I don't really like Rose, but I think that's mainly a holdover from last season. I'm pretty sure they are going to set her up so that we root for her, since that jazz club singer who rescued her is supposed to be a regular this season.
I feel so bad for Isobel, and think she's handling herself really nicely. I really wish she and the good doctor would be an item (didn't she turn him down before? can't remember).

I'm pretty neutral about Rose. I feel like they brought her on to bring back some of the young/carefree "spirit" that was lost with Sybil but I just don't connect with her character the same way. She always seems to have something up her sleeve, almost in a malicious way that isn't good spirited like Sybil.
@mfa_lady: @mrs. Sketchbook. I felt the same thing about the contract. I was thinking "please read that!!" I do hope Edith gets a happy ending (at least for one season), poor girl has no luck.

I don't want to say much, since I've actually seen it all except the "Christmas special" which will be the season finale because I was in the UK while it was airing, but I LOVE Violet this season. The rest I'm more meh on. But she's amazing.

I'm not loving it as much as earlier seasons; especially the constant beating up on Anna/Bates. Can't they have half a season without someone getting raped or accused of murder? The whole rape thing was just unnecessary.
I like the Edith storyline; both for her own career, the shift to modern working woman and love interest.

I finally watched this last night!
I so agree with @yoursilverlining: about Anna/Bates. From the first episode when Edna got Anna in trouble, I was like "really? AGAIN??". The rape really upset me, and I'd like them just to be happy already.
@MUI831: I *think* Edna had hit on Branson a few times right after Sybil died, so Mrs. Hughes booted her but still gave a reference. I'm not 100% on that though.
I like the Mary storyline and am happy they focused more on her in Episodes 2 & 3.
I like Edith too - I think it's interesting to see how life for women is changing, and at the same time I'm amused when Mary writes her off, haha.
Love the Isobel and Violet friendship!
Glad this past episode didnt have Moseley in it....I found that storyline to be pretty boring.

Anyone surprised/not surprised by the Edith plot this episode? I totally missed that she went to the doctor's in London, so I was a little surprised.
Totally expected the Rose/singer relationship, but it'll be interesting to see how the rest of the family deals with it.

I puffy heart Downton Abbey. I am enjoying this season, but the Anna/Mr. Bates storyline does make me sad.

@NorCalWayfarer: I was really surprised that Edith was pregnant. I missed the doctor part too, but I don't know if I like where this could go or not.
I really hate what is going on with Anna/Bates. I feel like they already dealt with so much, why are the writers making their life hard again!

I haven't watched last night's episode yet (I don't care about spoilers though) but I totally saw the Edith pregnant thing coming! As soon as she had the mini confrontation with her aunt after she came home so late I KNEW that's where it was going.

@78h2o: I had mixed feelings but I liked most of it! I think the only disappointing part was that I felt like a little *too much* was resolved and there aren't many storylines that have me anxiously awaiting next season (although I'll still watch!). I'm excited to see what happens with Edith's baby though. And to a lesser degree if/which of "Mary's men" she picks, although I'm pretty "meh" about either of them.
