We had a meetup with a couple families in the neighborhood today. It was so nice to get to know some moms with younger kids. Lo is still too young to play, but I'm glad to know them so she'll have kids to play with in the future around here.

Yup! It's really amazing... one of my favorite parts of living in Brooklyn! It's kind of like living in a small town...

Our new neighbors invited us over for some wine last night and it was great! We got along great and had a terrific time with them. Ive got to think of an excuse to invite them over soon.

Yes, and it's great because we live in the middle unit of a 3 unit townhouse! We're not close enough to hang out, but like to talk out in the yard and we all have dogs, so our obnoxious dog doesn't bug them, lol

@mrbee: my sister lives there and always seems to know everyone too. Must be nice!
@abbydabbydoodlebug: no need for an excuse, just invite them to hang out!

@sslm: I loved that when we were in the townhouse too. But I didn't like that I always had to talk to people every time I left the house. Sometimes you just want to walk the dog and have some me time!

I love my neighbours I rent from the parents of a good friend, and the couple renting the other house on the lot are also super nice. It's great compared to a lot of places we've lived.

Sadly it is quite the opposite for us. Our one neighbor is very judgmental and nebby, and accused us of starving our dog (who has allergies so his weight gain as a pup was slow). On the other side, the neighbor cut down half of the bushes in our front yard without permission. So we pretty much keep to ourselves.

We're friendly but we don't invite people over and vice versa. We are one of the youngest couples in the neighborhood (another one just moved in across the street last week, but no kids). All of our neighbors are either retired or have kids in high school and beyond.
I'm hoping to find a mom's group in the area that we can get some playdates/interaction with! Maybe when I'm walking the boys around in a stroller I'll meet some more of the younger crowd in our area!

@artbee: i guess i could do that... but id have to clean my house first, lol.

Yep, people are super friendly around here. It's especially easy to strike up a conversation when you have LOs.

We are friendly where we will wave and have some quick chit chat, but that's about it. We probably talk the most to the people next door. We've all been talking more because of some recent home invasions so we are just trying to collectively keep an eye out for our neighborhood and each other.

Sadly , no. I live in Cincinnati which is known for not so friendly people. I can't wait to move back to a small town where I can talk to my neighbors without getting the "why are you talking to me?" look.

@artbee: I wish We have older neighbors on one side who don't talk or socialize much & then the other neighbors are nice enough but we don't hang out. I wish!!

Our cross the street neighbors are our best friends and our neighbors on either side are both drinking buddies!

I didn't in my previous abodes but we do here and it's awesome. We live on a private street so the kids get to play in the street sometimes and we have block parties every 3 months.

We live on a pretty busy street so we don't see our neighbors often. We do know the people who live in the other unit in our house though (we live in a 2 unit townhouse-style building). They're a very very very sweet older couple with a grown son who used to live there too, but moved away-- he was our age so Wagon Sr. and him used to hang out a bit. They're incredibly nice and invite us over all the time. We're really lucky because they are so, so cool.
The family that used to live in that unit moved into their finished house last year, and we still keep in touch with them-- because the dad is a real estate broker and we totally intend on using him. He sells real estate to Red Sox players! So he's really good.

I am with our two next door neighbors, the neighbors behind and in front of us. Outside from that, not usually.
DH knows more neighbors from when he's out doing yardwork (plus I was in night law school our first year here) so I didn't get a chance to meet a lot of ppl.
DH says I'm anti-social.

DH's best friend lives a few houses down and we are friends with the neighbor's on both sides of them. We are friendly with the kids that live caddy-corner to our backyard, they always come over and play with our dog when we are outside. Otherwise, we haven't really gotten to know many of our neighbors.

We live in an older neighborhood where most people's kids are grown up/married and doing their own thing. We do know our diagonally left front neighbor and the neighbor directly to our right. We exchange light conversation when we do see each other.

Where we live now, we are very friendly with our neighbors, but not actually friends, like hang-out-on-purpose friends. We will just strike up a conversation if we see each other out and about.
We are moving soon, and I really want to get to know our neighbors. In fact, we are going to make a concerted effort to make friends other than at work. Right now, 99% of our friends are from work, and they're great, but we need some variety.

We'll wave to people as they drive by if we're in the front yard but that's about it. We have never socialized with any of our neighbors. Hopefully our next neighborhood will be better!

We are friendly with our neighbors and talk to them when we are out getting the mail or on a walk. Our next door neighbor is the guard dog of the neighborhood and always has all the gossip so if we see a cop car or anything out of the ordinary, we go and ask her what happened. She literally sits in her garage all day from 7 am to midnight to smoke and watch tv so she doesn't miss anything!
