I could be happy in our current home if we only have two kids. the back yard is a lil smaller than our liking but we could take out the hot tub and make more room for the kids!
DH wants to build our forever home in a few years to accommodate 3 kids! (Our fourth bedroom is a converted walkin dressing room off our master) We'll see where we end up on that one

For now, yes. DH is pretty adamant about not creating any debt (which we have none), so building a new home and starting a mortgage is not in the foreseeable future. Even though there are things I do not care for about the house, I tell myself that we are VERY lucky and will continue to make it into OUR home.

We aren't sure! We love our home but there is a neighborhood that we'd like to move to eventually. Right now, it is way out of our price range.

I really hope so! We are young to be in our forever home, but we got such a deal on it (pre-forclosure) and it's surrounded by houses wayyy out of our price range. We will need to do a reno to the master bedroom eventually.

Nope! We got a great deal on an awesome home, but we will not be here forever. It's just a bit too small to hold us all for the next 15+ years... plus I want out of this city!

No, we're in a too-small apartment in a town I don't like. We're hoping to move sometime in the next year, into our hopefully forever home. But as there's always a possibility of D being transferred to another state it might just be a forever for now home.

I don't think I can think of a place as a forever home. I moved around a ton as a kid and it is just my personality to pursue change.....

Yes...for sure! We own the condo we used to live in and now rent out to someone else as well as the home we live in now. We're slowly upgrading things that we need desperately (our Valentine's gift to each other was new windows ) and we're making it our forever home!!

We want it to be. However, it's a 1939 home with 25 original windows that need to be replaced, in addition to a kitchen that will need to be remodeled and a basement that will need to be refinished. The perks are it's plenty big enough with a big yard, in the location we want to stay in. So as long as the projects don't overwhelm us and we can keep up with an old house and make it ours then we will stay!

I want to say yes, but we don't have kids yet. And "forever" to us means to completely raise our kids until they move out. I think once we are empty nesters, we would like to move to a smaller house in a coveted area in our city.
I think we are now at the sweet spot where we have room to grow, but it still seems modest enough to keeps us from accumulating too much stuff. We also have a unfinished basement that we can grow into and almost double our livable square footage.

No, but I can't wrap my brain around the idea of a "forever" home. I see us living here for the foreseeable future, but who knows where we may end up? We could definitely raise our kids in this house/neighborhood happily. I don't see us living here when we're grandparents (but we might! Who knows!)

Nope. We currently rent an apartment in a college town while DH gets his Ph.D. We won't even be staying in this town, let alone this apartment for much longer. I'm not sure if or when we will have a "forever" home. DH's position will move us a lot in the next 10-15 years. I could see us having a forever location eventually, but I don't see that happening for a while!

@TemperanceBrennan: I agree with you on the meaning of "forever". When I think about "forever," that means until my kid(s) are grown and out of the house. We'd likely downsize after that, but we're very much in our long-term home.

I'm really not sure. I think it will depend on how many kids we have. I'd love a bigger backyard. I really love my house and would have no problem staying here. The idea of moving again anytime soon is not appealing at all.

Yup, forever and ever.
We have a huge yard that's big enough for a deck plus in ground pool plus room for the kids to run around in. We have four bedrooms with 2.5 baths with a third full in the future. It's more than we'll ever need. It's also built for entertaining....well we built it that way. And it's in a solid good school district.
We'll definitely be here till well after the kids go off to college.

I'm a little on the fence. We got an amazing deal on the house we have now, and it's got a ton of sq ft but the bedrooms aren't laid out the way I would have done it if anyone had asked me (which, stupidly, they didn't) 
DH is in school and it's a field that has very few jobs where we are. I'd love to stay close to family but I also know there's a high probability we'll end up living in a different state...at least for a few years. It breaks my heart to think we wouldn't be this close to family but I know it would be worth it in the end. Anywhodiddle...we COULD live in this house forever, size/location/functionality, but I wouldn't be heartbroken to be in a different house either.

I don't know! We like our location and I don't think we'll ever HAVE to move because we have lots of room in our current house. It isn't perfect (I'd love a bigger yard with a nice patio and whatnot), but I could see us living here for the foreseeable future. But if our finances ever allowed us to build a "dream home" that was more custom on a better lot I think we'd do that. I'm just not sure if we'll ever have the sort of money that would make me feel comfortable moving purely out of "want" rather than "need" since our current house is plenty big.

Maybe?! Our house has enough bedrooms for our family of 5, enough storage but isnt so big that it will be too much to take care of 40 years from now.
We still kind of feel like it's an investment property though. DH hasn't reach his full potential at his work and I've been a SAHM so I haven't contributed to our finances. 10 years from now, we might feel more comfortable buying a nicer house with a view but for now, we are happy with where we are at and I can see us happy here forever.

Nope. We're in a condo that's getting too small for the three of us especially if we want to have another kid. DH is hating this weather and wanting to move out of state. I want to move into a bigger house for awhile, rent maybe. I really don't want to move out of state since we have family close enough and a good support system. DH doesn't make friends well, so I don't think that he's thinking it through much right now.

Yeah, I think so. It's a little smaller than we would ideally like and we bought with a view to extending but we'll see when the time comes whether it is more cost effective to move or to extend.....

No way. I'm in a two bedroom condo. Luckily it has 2.5 baths and a two car garage, but its entirely too small and no yard - just a concrete patio. I don't want to raise babies there. However, I do think I can manage to have two small kids there. I'm constantly looking at houses and don't even think our next house will be our forever house. Real estate is just too expensive where I am so we have to do it in steps.

Nope! We are in our little starter home and will be for about 5 more years. T is due any day and will be coming home here and we will have another LO in this house also.
Whether or not our next house will be our forever home, I don't know.

@Mrs. Pen: Same here. We are renters and have never owned, so we're definitely not in a forever place. And even if we do buy in the next couple of years it won't be a forever place.
