Oh wow, big news today with real lawyers getting involved!
apricot / 490 posts
@mrbee: I couldn't wait to listen. This is huge news. Where is Jay though? His location/current whereabouts must be interesting enough to the lawyers that they took the case. Besides the spoiler podcast on Slate there is a whole sub-reddit but I'm wary to find things out before Sarah Koening decides to spill.

gotta go get my ipod out of the car & download it! I'll listen at lunch. Can't wait!

Ahhh it's Thursday I almost forgot, hello to my next 45 minutes I wish there were multiple cases, I could listen to her talk all day!

Thursday morning commutes have quickly become my favorite thanks to Serial. Something about hearing all those lawyers and law students say they thought Adnan was innocent really makes me feel like he is. I mean, they do this all the time. I can't wait for next week and to learn more about Jay!

I'm all caught up and listened to episode 8 on my way to work this morning. Ahhh this show is addicting. I wish I didn't have to wait a week for the next episode.
And I seriously
Sarah Koenig's voice.

@lawbee11: Her "I 'unno" cracks me up!
I want Adnan to be innocent... can't wait for the Innocence Project to report back.

@teawithpaloma: I have no idea what to think. I'm so conflicted.
ETA: I would hate to think they're going through all the work of this podcast just to reveal that Adnan is indeed guilty, but I just don't see how he wasn't at least involved in some way.

@lawbee11: Yup! I was totally on teamadnan, but Jay's composure today really got me thinking! Also, Chris' testimony that Jay said the crime occurred at the library suggests that Adnan's potential alibi (Asia) isn't as strong as I once thought it was.
Hoping that Deirdre digs up some forensic evidence soon to break the case!

I was soooooo sold on Adnan's innocence..... but the longer this goes on the more I tend to think that there might not have been evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, however, I think they got the right guy.
I'm missing a motive for Jay to randomly kill a girl he kind of knew. In today's episode Jay's friend mentions in like a little blip that no one focused on that he was originally told the murder happened at the library. What if this was true? It would make more sense timeline wise / would explain why Asia saw him and also why the lawyer didn't approach Asia.
I think I'm going to fall into the category of people disappointed that this won't end with absolute clarity!

@reverie: I think the most damning evidence against Adnan is the fact that he called Hae 3 times the night before she went missing but then not again after that. If you were innocent wouldn't you have been trying to get in contact with her once you found out she went missing? That doesn't make sense to me.
But it also doesn't make sense as to why Adnan would kill her either at the library or at Best Buy. That is a huge risk to take and you'd think if either of those scenarios were true there would've been a witness. I don't know...I'm so confused!
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@reverie: I read online that some people think Jay was cheating on Stephanie with Jen and Hae knew about it so he killed her to keep that from getting out. Not sure how I feel about that theory.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@lawbee11: If he was guilty though, he might've called just to set up an alibi!
The tough part for me is the Nisha call. Also, why didn't Adnan's lawyer accuse Jay more forcefully of committing the crime? A lot of her actions seem to make the most sense if her client told her he was guilty...
kiwi / 661 posts
@lawbee11: Yeah I think that is more of a stretch. It is also more of a stretch for Jay to be able to knock Hae out of her routine. Like Adnan asking for a ride or getting Hae to meet him somewhere seems more logical than Jay.

In general I can't wait for next Thursdays episode where SK tackles Adnan as a whole!

Personally, I think they both had something more to do with it than they're admitting. They are both being sketchy with the details. If Jay told Chris that it happened at the library it makes more sense but why wouldn't he tell the cops that? I think they're both lying. If Jay really had nothing to do with it out side of Adnan telling him he was going to do it & "helping" with the body, why would he lie?

I jumped on the bandwagon yesterday, I can't wait to hear what happens next! I haven't done any internet sleuthing to get more info, I've just been listening to the podcasts so far.

I'm obsessed with the Reddit subgroup on Serial because people are so crazy there (like me, haha). But I do think both Jay and Adnan are concealing something else---drug ring maybe?--and that's why the real truth isn't coming out.
And how can the police detectives listen to Jay's ever changing story and thing, yeah, THIS guy is trustworthy.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@lamariniere: I've done a good bit of sleuthing but there really isn't much out there other than some theories that may or may not be true...it's all just speculation. I've been hoping to stumble upon some spoilers. This is why I could never been team green!
@Anagram: Yes, I've been reading the sub-Reddit as well. I definitely think one or both of them are lying. And I can't believe there was a 3-hour interrogation of Jay that wasn't recorded....ahhhhhh!

Wow so the Best Buy/murder timeline is totally shot at this point.
I thought the storytelling in this episode was much tighter than in recent episodes. Good episode, SK! Will definitely donate later today.

@mrbee: This was my favorite episode so far. Loved it. And I'm also back on Team Adnan....gah I flip-flop every week! I'm depressed that we have to wait 2 weeks for a new episode

I don't know who to believe.. I think the story is gripping and the storytelling is really good, but I feel really bad for her family. If they don't end up proving his innocence, it's really going to feel like she got exploited for our entertainment.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
I'm still team Adnan, I hope the other crew figures out something to help exonerate him. he is really smooth, but I just don't think he killed her although he does seem content in prison, maybe because he though all his options were over?
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@T-Mom: I've also been thinking a lot about her family! Was amazed that her brother is really into Reddit, and posted about his thoughts on the show:
http://www.reddit.com/r/serialpodcast/comments/2mmldf/i_am_haes_brother_do_not_ama/
The moderators verified his identity... according to him, he and his cousin know about the podcast but his mom doesn't. He said this about the podcast: "Although I do not like the fact that SK pick our story to cover, she is an awesome narrator/ writer/ investigator. No wonder why this podcast is so popular."

@mrbee: No new episode until 12/4 because of Thanksgiving.
I am obsessed with the sub-reddit. Obsessed.

@mrbee: good to know there is a great episode coming! I mean they are all "good" but I just finished 3 & 4 and found them kind of hard to follow with the cell phone records and timing, I kept having to rewind and listen again!
eggplant / 11716 posts
@lawbee11: me too! Did you see the post from Hae's supposed-brother? And the posts from Rabia and her brother!? I even watched the youtube videos of someone driving around and filming the Best Buy and Library parking lots.
admin / wonderful grape / 20724 posts
@Veggiemama: Yah the cell phone/tower stuff really highlights the weakness of audio/podcasts! A TV show would've been able to show all that stuff in a clear picture... maybe they'll make an accompanying documentary DVD as part of a boxed set for super fans or something!

@Anagram: HAha I think we've been clicking on the same subreddit links!!

I've caught up on it the past few days. I'm so on the fence about Adnan. I have more inclination to think that Jay's a pathological liar, but he may hold a grain of truth. His reaction when SK talked to him seemed real. Then, there's the whole Adnan as a model prisoner.
I really liked Laura's jarred memory about shoplifting and knowing that the phone wasn't in the parking lot. Then to back it up with the police didn't interview her, it makes me crazy. SK said that the detectives did a decent job with their investigation, yet there's so many holes of doubt put in it. I'm still confused but really intrigued by the whole thing.
