I am so obsessed and while my husband was finishing smoothing out the nursery walls and priming this weekend, he listened to all of them and now he is, too.
Here is my husband's theory: Adnan did it, but Jay was more more involved than he says. And Adnan hasn't ratted Jay out because Jay has higher connections with drug dealers who would make sure he was killed or hurt in prison, so Adnan is too scared to say anything about Jay. Even in this last episode, when SK says something about being mad at Jay, Adnan doesn't address it at all. He says he only has himself to blame...

@mrbee: I saw that too..
I wonder how long this is going to go on.. I read that they haven't said how many episodes it will be since they are only 2 weeks ahead and can't predict what they will find.

@Anagram: LOL ok you're a tad more obsessed than I am I've never used Reddit before so I find it kind of hard to keep up!
@mrs. tictactoe: I 100% think Jay was more involved than he claims. I also think Jenn was somehow involved. At this point I think Adnan is innocent but that changes weekly.
@T-Mom: Serial's twitter said they're aiming for 12 episodes, which would make sense as it would end the week before Christmas.

@T-Mom: I was surprised to see the response to the podcast's popularity mentioned in it as it's recorded a couple weeks in advance versus fully recorded ahead of time. I'm tempted to donate since I already do for Chicago Public Radio. Serial's really brought me back into listening to podcasts in general. I forgot that I can listen to them on my phone. Huge bonus for commuting.

@cascademom: I think she said recently that she's doing them in real time now!! This week's episode teased the next episode (in two weeks) and she didn't even have a name for the new episode... so she must be using Thanksgiving to catch up!

@cascademom: I'm totally donating! I want a second season!

This is a great interview with SK.

So glad I found this thread! SO OBSESSED with Serial!
It's absolutely fascinating. I've listened to each episode at least twice! Have you guys visited the website?

@greenebee: I am re-listening to the whole thing since I only listened with half an ear the first time. I'm still digesting, but I'm having a hard time believing that Adnan did it...I'm not very good at guessing these things though!

I'm all caught up! Hooray! I think that Adnan probably is involved somehow, unless Jay completely set him up. But regardless of whether he is actually guilty, I don't think he should have been convicted based on the evidence presented in his trial. I wonder if his outcome would have been different with another attorney.

@lamariniere: @greenebee: I'm relistebung while my DH gets caught up. It's sooo good

@Pancakes: I agree! It's stra he was convicted with that evidence. I'm actually thinking that he's innocent, but I can be pretty naive about things like this. ALSO: How sketchy is Jay?! I think he's covering for someone else.
nectarine / 2180 posts
@greenebee: ooh, yes, I could totally see Jay covering for someone else.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@greenebee: Jay is so damn sketchy. I also think Jenn sketchy.
I'm still really torn on what I think. I was reading the court docs a couple of days ago (I am such a nerd!) and Jay went into a lot of detail about things Adnan said to him after the murder. If Adnan is completely innocent then Jay is a fantastic liar.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
Ok I just thought of something else. I feel like there has to have been 2 people involved because there were 2 cars involved (Hae's and Adnan's). So if Jay acted alone and drove Hae's car somewhere then how would he have gotten back to Adnan's car?
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@lawbee11: I feel like Jenn has to be involved so maybe her? I havent seen any evidence so far to make me believe Adnan was involved. I also think it's crazy that Jay walked by blaming Adnan even though there were all the inconsistencies!
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@jetsa: There were calls to Jenn's home that afternoon, so if Jenn were with him that wouldn't make sense. I do think Jenn knows more than she's admitting, though.

ahhhh man!! So after seeing this post on Friday I started listening and DH and I got through all 9 episodes this weekend. To say we are hooked is an understatement! I can't wait for the new episode next week - glad we have Thanksgiving this week to distract us!

So glad to see this thread! DH and I caught up this weekend. Like most people, I'm conflicted about Adnan, and think Jay is SUPER sketch. His story seems too detailed (and changes too often). Don't experts say that people over embellish when they're lying?
Also, Adnan's ability to forget certain parts of the day is just strange. I know it was weeks later that he was asked to recall, but you'd think that a phone call from the police would definitely make that day stand out in your memory.

glad to find this thread! i've been listening from the beginning (when i commute, so it can be interrupted at times) - and all caught up now!
thanks for all the links @mrbee (and others) will go check it out!
will also be supporting a second season.
as for what team i am on ...... not sure yet.

@lawbee11: have they said yet where Hae's car was found?
Also this is kind of random, but it just seems crazy to me that so many people were called that afternoon. Even if I had had my own cellphone in '99, I can't imagine calling that many different people. Strange.
eggplant / 11716 posts
@Pancakes: I think it's crazy, too--at least if we;re assuming Adnan did it and Jay was helping somehow--that both of them could kill a human and then spend all afternoon/evening calling girls' phones, flirting and chatting.
I feel like there's so much more to this story--and Jay definitely knows, but isn't telling.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Pancakes: Yes. I believe it was initially at a park-n-ride type place but then was later moved to an area behind some houses. I'm not sure if it was moved the same day of the murder or later...

@lawbee11: gah! Just read it (thank you for giving me something to do with my insomnia!). It is totally plausible and convincing me further that Adnan didn't do it!
nectarine / 2180 posts
@lawbee11: okay, I read this on the way back from my parents' house last night. Definitely some plausible ideas! Soo, theories about Jay's motive?
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@Pancakes: I've thought about this a lot. Because the cause of death was strangulation, I feel like it has to have been an argument that escalated. If it were premeditated I'd imagine the killer would've used a different (easier) method than strangulation. So I don't think either Jay or Adnan really had a motive, but if it was an argument that escalated it could've been either of them. I've seen some speculation online that Hae was planning to confront Jay about cheating on Stephanie.
pineapple / 12566 posts
@Pancakes: @lawbee11: if Adnan is innocent I am also really struggling with Jay's motive. Like lawbee11 said, I've also vaguely heard about cheating scenarios, but just can't quite wrap my head around murder for that. Also, how weird is it that Jay didn't call Stephanie on her birthday until something like after 11pm? Especially if he supposedly went to buy her a gift after Adnan encouraged him, and he was so in love with her?
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@Pancakes: my DH thinks Jay's motive was jealousy. He was jealous over Adnan and Stephanie's relationship. To me it's shakey but it's something. I do think it's more plausible than Adnan's motive since we have all this testimony that he wasn't heartbroken

I am going to be so bummed if there is no resolution! I don't think Adnan is guilty but I feel like he has to know more than he's letting on.
Just to bring up a point I don't think has been mentioned here: the whole "Cathy" phone call is not valid to me. If I was 17 and high out of my mind, I'd be nervous to talk to the cops regardless of what they wanted. Also, he and Hae were not supposed to be dating according to their families. I know they were broken up at this point but I don't see him saying "what am I supposed to say?" as an incriminating thing.

I am so obsessed with Serial! I do think sadly Adnan is guilty but I don't think it went down like Jay said at all. I am fascinated with finding out what really happened to that poor girl.
nectarine / 2878 posts
I cannot stop obsessing over Serial! Excited for this week's episode. I have no idea if Adnan is guilty or not though. What is the real motive? Jay was obviously involved since he knew where her car was but the evidence against Adnan is really weak. This case is so intriguing yet frustrating.

We just finished Ep 9. So excited to go read Reddit and other articles out there. I'd been avoiding everything for fear of spoilers.
My feeling is that Adnan and Jay were both involved in Hae's murder. I have no idea which one actually did it - probably Jay? I think, though, that Jay's testimony is completely fabricated in order to line up with the cell records because the police figured the only way to convict anyone was with the records because it was as close to "proof" as they were going to get. They probably brought Jay in for interviews, threatened him based on his drug connections and he basicaly expressed that he'd tape whatever they needed him to. Adnan had more "motive" being Hae's ex-boyfriend so it was easier to pin it on him. I don't know what Jay and Adnan were up to that day (other than a lot of drugs) but I think things got out of hand and one of th ended up killing her. I doubt it was planned. I don't think she was killed at Best Buy and it seems crazy that she'd be killed at the library! I don't think Adnan went to track at all that night and instead went somewhere with Hae (and Jay?). Then she ended up being killed later in the evening. Maybe right before they went to Kathy's? I can't remember the cell phone calls, though, so maybe that doesn't make sense. One thing I can't figure out though is if Adnan was involved in the least, why didn't he say "yeah I knew this happened, but Jay actually did it" and then reach his own agreement with police? Jay was the one into drugs while Adnan appeared to be this upstanding citizen, so wouldn't that have been believable. It just seems like his lawyer should have tried harder to pin it on Jay to at least cast doubt over the prosecutor's case! (Perhaps I watched too much How to Get Away With Mirder this fall!). I am most interested to hear what the Innocence Project makes of the case and whether any of the lab results could be recovered or even re-run?

@mossyslane: That is crazy! And exciting
@twodoghouse: I don't think she was killed at Best Buy or the library either. I do think she was killed right after school, though. Otherwise I think she would've picked up her cousin from school like she did every other day.
I'm SOOOO excited for Thursday! I've been going through Serial withdrawals.
