Nope, not at all. I'm barely informed about local news!

Not anymore. I used to follow the news so closely and then I stopped. It really hasn't made any difference in my life!

I'm like you @mrbee I read at least 3 newspapers a day (online). Sometimes more. I much prefer reading the British papers.....I feel like they actually cover WORLD news..where as US newspapers seem to just cover US news.

I try to read CNN and listen to NPR daily~

I used to be very informed about domestic and international news. Over the past couple of years though I've really started to see the benefit in investing that time in something that effects me on an immediate, daily basis. I also have a huge distrust for most news organizations and don't buy into most of what they're reporting.

I'm super-informed about US and World news. I got into reading world news after I moved to Europe last year. I don't know why I read it either.

@looch: I'm glad someone does! :). I was starting to feel a little crazy . By using multiple sources, you can sort out what is news reporting bias and what is fact pretty easily.

I like being updated on current news. I don't think it's too much. I don't know much about Syria. I like CNN but sometimes to get unbiased news, I'll go over to BBC. Also, I love catching up on William and Kate.

@mrbee: I think it's important to stay updated with world news. I consider myself a citizen of the world, not just the United States, and I find it a little bit embarrassing when my American friends are clueless about the rest of the planet.

Europeans, and most people in the world, stay updated on the news of more than just their own country.

I think it's a good thing to be informed.

@Arden: for real, right?! I have a friend who didn't even know who Joe Biden was... I was like, "seriously?!"

I go in waves. I read the news almost every day but when I'm on my information overload kick I get obsessive. I'm a skeptic and a researcher so I'd pick up on small details of stories that don't make sense and research the heck out of them. But it just makes me cynical and frustrated so once baby came I turned my internet research skill to happy babies instead of depressing politics.

One thing I don't like is when people bring up a topic and I can tell which site a person read because of the way they present the topic. I feel like it's not a discussion if it's just going to be a regurgitation of someone else's word. That's really rude of me to think, and I'd never say it in person, but it irritates the crap out of me when someone doesn't at least add a little of their own ideas. Reminds me of the 'did you read' Portlandia sketch

I think it's important to keep up with the news not only in my own country but around the world, because you never know when it might affect you and it is also an important part of understanding the world we live in without becoming too insulated. Maybe I feel this way because I am from New Zealand though, and events around the world seem to be more reported here than I what I saw reported when I visited the USA. It really frustrates me when my husband's American relatives don't know what's going on outside their own tiny backyard.

Yes, instead of having the tv on, I usually have NPR going. I miss hearing it from my daily commutes. I do take pride in knowing what is going on around me, I don't like to be America-centric.
