My dad is very affectionate. He always hugs me when I arrive, a few times while I visit and a hug goodbye with a kiss on the side of the head. <-- love him! My mom is semi-affectionate. usually just a hug goodbye.

Oh yes. Lots of hugs and kisses and I love yous. Same with my in laws.

My dad always does this weird thing where he pulls me into a side-hug with one arm and grabs my belly with his other hand and calls me "the Baby" or "the Redbird" in a silly voice. He didn't do it last time I saw him since it the first time I'd seen him since being pregnant (I was 16 weeks, so no real bump yet). I wonder if he'd do it now that I have a big bump and if he'll do it post-partum (though obvs not until I'm recovered!).

dang! your dad is so funny! both of my parents are affectionate.. mom a little bit more. Although, dad is more emotional. go fig.

my parents NEVER were. I knew they loved me, but never got "I love yous" (that I remember).

for some reason, though, as soon as I moved to college my Dad got very affectionate. hugs, and he'll noogie my head if I'm over there and he walks by.

My parents are somewhat affectionate, but it's a little forced. I've definitely seen many other families that are more affectionate, and I kind of wish we were like that. Also, even though my parents claim to love DH "like a son" they are still very formal with him -- hugs are rare and "I love yous" are nonexistent.

Nope, not affectionate at ALL. I can literally remember only two times that my mom and I have hugged (one time was when she was dropping me off at college, and the other time was on my wedding day). And I can't remember ever hugging my dad, although I'm sure it must've happened when I was little, right? Maybe not...

We almost never say "I love you" either. We're just not that kind of family. It's SUPER OBVIOUS that my parents love me and my brother, though. They're very caring, giving, helping, thoughtful, etc. We definitely FEEL the love, even though it's never explicitly stated.

So coming from my prudish background, it was a shock when I was first introduced to my husband's family and they wanted to hug me and kiss me. I was all "WTF - don't touch me!" I'm still not used to it! haha

My family is very affectionate. My husband's not so much. It weirds me out when I'm with them, though I know it's mostly cultural. But he's super huggy and kissy with Baby Y
