If a friend gets you a birthday present, do you make sure you get them one too? And vice-versa, if a sibling DOESN'T get your LO a birthday present, do you NOT get their LO a birthday present?

If I see something that I know a friend will like I will buy it for them even if they don't get me anything for my birthday.
My siblings and I are always exchange bday gifts. We don't with DH's sister and BIL though. So if they did get us something I would feel like I had to get them something.

I always get my friends gifts for their birthday - even if they don't get me one!
My brother stopped getting gifts for my kids so I did stop buying for his kids

With friends - yes.
My younger brother pretty much never gifts me anything, but we always gift him. So with family, we don't anticipate receiving gifts, but we always gift.

With friends I am reciprocal, with my siblings I usually always send something but typically they don't buy birthday gifts unless we will be together near birthdays. It does mean I buy more of a token gift then I would otherwise.

Usually, yes, especially with friends. However there are certain family members who we give gifts to (great grandmas, unemployed SIL), and we don't expect gifts in return.

I don't even know, I'm so bad at keeping track! Luckily, I don't really exchange gifts with friends OR family... Everyone usually just get together and eat.

I like to wait until I see something for someone (young or old) that I think they'll like, instead of feeling pressured by specific dates/instances to get someone a gift. Feels more sincere to me.

Friends I always get if they do. I would always get my nieces/nephews a birthday gift no matter what, to me that's not their fault but their parents fault.

I always buy for siblings and their kids. I don't care if they don't gove me anything. I just really love giving gifts.

We are. If a friend/family member gets us a gift, we do the same.
What do you all do for wedding gifts? When we got married, some of the hubbies friends didn't get us a gift or card. Now they are getting married this year and I don't feel obligated to get them anything since they didn't for us. What would you do?

@alphagam84: I would probably get them a card and maybe $20, but definitely not what I would NORMALLY give at a wedding, haha.

@alphagam84: I would give a wedding present like normal.

Yes, pretty much, it's just easier. The only exception is the wedding present one...there were a couple of couple's that didn't get us a gift, but we got them one anyway afterwards.
