I am rh- and had a cesarean, my daughter was rh+. I received several rhogam shots due to spotting/bleeding throughout pregnancy and then one after birth. To my knowledge (I'm not a doctor, this is just info I've come across in my own researching) being rh- doesn't affect TTC but having rh incompatibility can cause issues with the baby if antibodies were formed in an earlier pregnancy. I believe a rhogam shot is only needed when there is potential for bloods to mix during pregnancy, so not prior to ttc. I really would ask your doctor these questions though.

I'm Rh- but haven't had to get the shot. My partner is negative and my doctor was ok with us providing verification of his blood type.

I don't think you can have issues with a second pregnancy until the baby starts making their own blood cells, and even then it's rare if you got the Rhogam shot at delivery. So it probably wouldn't cause problems in early pregnancy. You could probably ask your doctor to give you a blood test for antibodies though, to be sure the shot worked...

An Rh incompatibility would not cause problems in an early pregnancy. Mother and fetus do not share blood systems and the problem with incompatibility stems from blood mixing. Blood mixing can happen if a small amount of blood from the fetus crosses the placenta into the mother's system, but as early as 4 weeks into pregnancy, there wouldn't even be a placenta yet. It can also happen if the mother had an amnio, CVS, or bleeding of unknown origin during the pregnancy.

Regardless, if blood tests are negative when AF is just a few days late, the chances that you are pregnant are slim to none so I wouldn't bother yourself worrying about the Rh issue.

@jh524: I wasn't being snarky..? I thought your question was could your body be somehow processing a pregnancy despite the negative tests due to rh- complications. My (non-medical) opinion is no. Sorry if I have misinterpreted your post.

I am rh-. If you are worried that you developed antibodies, the doctor can do a blood test to see if you are sensitized. I am currently going through Ivf and the dr just did that and mine actually came back positive (meaning I am, although most likely mine is left over from the shot I got during my miscarriage 3 months ago). I am not sure what it means (if anything) for ttc, although they would not do a fresh transfer with the results that way, but that could just be to avoid pregnancy complications. Anyway, if it would make you feel better, you could definitely ask for that test so you know ahead of time if you have any hurdles.

@jh524: I have had three C-sections and I am RH-
With my first pregnancy I got the shot at 28 weeks, C-section at 40 weeks 6 days, shot again after delivery because baby is RH+
Second pregnancy, I had a SCH, so I got the shot early, then again at 28 weeks, C-section at 37 weeks 1 day (my water broke), baby is RH- so no shot at delivery
Third pregnancy, a little bleeding in the beginning, so I got the shot early, again at 28 weeks, C-section at 39 weeks, shot at delivery because baby is RH+
Fourth pregnancy, shot early because of bleeding and I'm 11 weeks 1 day along and everything is looking good.

Have you ever had the shot? With my first I did have some early bleeding, but I never told the doctor and didn't know I was RH- at the time and I haven't had any issues conceiving.

I am O-. Both my girls are positive (though I obviously did not know that until they were born!). I did not have bleeding with either pre-labor.

With both, I got the Rhogam shot around 26-28 weeks (fuzzy now) and again after delivery (the next morning) when it was discovered they were both positive blood types.
