My dad is a retired police officer. He retired at 50. Though now he still teaches part time at the police academy, he makes his own schedule. I'm pretty sure he fills the rest of his days alternating between golfing and watching golf on TV.

sorta but not really. My dad retired 6 or 7 years ago with the intention of going back to work just part time after to keep busy and make a little extra money (he was very young when he retired, like 52 or so). But the job he took ended up to be more than he expected and he's basically working more now than before he retired haha. He plans to retire (again) in under 2 years, but then REALLY just go back to work part time (for real) after that. He doesn't think he's the type to ever just sit around but he'd like to work just 15-20 hrs/week consulting or something.

My mom is retiring in 2 weeks! So exciting. She plans to take 6 months or so off so she'll have lots of time to come see us when the baby is born, and to get their house ready to sell. Then she wants to get a part time job somewhere to keep her busy.

My mom was a SAHM and never went back to work. Now, she watches my LO while I'm at work

My dad is an engineer at a nuclear plant and he's been working there for over 30 years. I think he'll probably retire in the next 5 years.

No, mine are artists, so I never foresee retirement happening. It is nice that they have a flexible schedule though! We don't take advantage of it often, but the rare times we do are nice.

My IL's are retired teachers, they travel a lot and are very active in their housing community.

Yep! They retired last year, at 54!

My dad and his wife are retired and moved to florida - they fish and talk walks, and read and just relax all day (that's what they told me!)

My mom is sorta retired. She retired from the govt but nows works here and there for a contractor. She travels all the time! Aruba, florida, one over seas trip per year - then many visits to see me in PA and my brother in WV.

My mom retired to watch the grandkids full time.

My dad has retired for about the 3rd time. 1st time- retired after 20 years in military. 2nd time- worked as exec at govt contractor 3rd time- he taught math at a high school. Now, he plays golf and tennis. My mom still works. She loves working though.

DH's parents are. Well, his dad still manages the apartments they own, but other than that he is retired. They are turning 60 this year and have been retired for about 5 years.

My parents are not retired and probably won't be for a while yet. They are turning 50 this year.

My dad and stepmum...I don't know what they do. They have lunches with friends and walk the dog. And they come visit dd and me for a day every week.

My mum is also retired. She lost her husband, my stepdad, right when she retired, so her life changed in every way. She was really nervous about the transition, but she's done an AMAZING job - I'm so proud of her! She's made a ton of new friends and is always busy. She walks with a group of ladies for an hour every morning, belongs to a book club, is a member of multiple art museums and local film festivals, curls in the winter, rides her bike a lot in the summer. She also spends every February in Florida and every June and July at her cottage.

My dad has a countdown date, but is still working because of pension reasons (he wants the full amount of $$). I think he has until December of 2015. My mom stopped working a few years ago, but she only worked "for fun" once my brother and I left home to keep busy.
