Are your parents tech savvy? Mine aren't and they usually refuse to read instructions! My brother bought my parents an IPad and a book- "IPad for Seniors for Dummies" that my Mom has been reading lately.

My parents try to keep up but arent good at all, my dad is still having a hard time sending text messages and they are always squinting at their touchscreen phones. My mom told me she wants an iphone and I'm thinking "why?" since they barely use any of the features on the regular phone they have now.

No. My dad can't even turn on a computer. No joke. He's a doctor, he's a very smart man, but not when it comes to computers. Which is bad because all doctors are going electronic now. My mom is a little better, she works on the computer all day. But if it's not her normal thing, she doesn't know how to do it.

My parents are ok, not savvy but my mom just got an iPhone! I am amazed that she can use it. I am pretty sure she just uses the phone, camera, and email, though. They refuse to figure out Skype which is really annoying since they live so far away - it would be nice to do that sometimes.

No, not at all! The only part that is really annoying is my mom wants to do all sorts of things online (FaceBook, Etsy, manage her own website, etc.) but doesn’t know how to do anything or use any of those websites, and by the time she calls me for help, she’s really angry at whatever program “won’t let her do what she wants”. I have to listen to her rant about how her computer can’t copy/paste (yes it can, mom) and won’t let her save pictures to other folders besides the default “my pictures” (again, yes it will mom).

My parents are decent. In-laws are a lot more tech savvy though.

@Andrea: You should set it up for them! That's what I did.. ! Or see if you can face time with your mom now that she has an iphone?

My dad is a brilliant man. He got an iphone before I did shoo! At first, it took him 2 days to send 1 text message. Now, he's a text monster and prefers text over phone calls. Hysterical.
My mom on the other hand, she knows how to reply and send emails, but that's about it.
My in-laws - not so much.

@chopsuey119: she has an old iphone so she has no facetime??? anyway, yes, i will set it up on her phone when she comes in a few weeks!!

My mom is really tech savvy - much more than I am! She has every Apple gadget around and can program/fix/deal with many computer problems. My dad can barely turn on the TV without messing up the cable : )

@artbee: My dad is a doctor too and has his own practice... the transition to the electronic system has been SOOO painful for him!! And my mom too because she helps run his practice :T
Overall, they are ok with technology, they can turn on the computer and send emails. But if they need anything more than that, they just wait for my husband to come over and fix/install things!

Heck to the no, and I end up functioning as tech support, which is really hard to do over the phone when they don't know what they're describing.

My parents are tech savvy. My dad has to be as a part of his job.

Not to the extent of DH or me, but yes, I think my parents qualify as tech savvy. My dad is on the computer all day for work, and we've always had a computer at home for as long as I can remember. He can set things up and troubleshoot for himself pretty well. My mom was sort of iffy on the tech stuff until the iphone came out. She got one, and suddenly she was the internet queen. It was kind of hilarious.
In-laws are so NOT tech savvy, though. MIL called DH in a panic once because she didn't understand why when she clicked on an email it gave her the option to delete the message when she didn't want to.

@sweetchic: my mom helps my dad too! He's very good at just having a staff member do it for him. He's hoping to retire before everything has to be on the computer.

My dad is super tech savvy, he's the techie of the family. Multiple computers and television things. My mom is okay, mostly because of my dad. Inlaws arent quite so great but they're better than most imho

My dad is really tech savvy. He pretty much built my computer himself when I was a kid (in the 90s). He's really smart and he's always been into technology. He's the guy that everyone in the family calls if something is broken or if they can't figure out how to work a new electronic toy.
My mom, on the other hand, is definitely not. She joined facebook about 2 years ago and even now, either me or my sister has to add photos for her. I recently taught her to copy/paste. Yeah... Its a work in progress.

Nope, not at all. My dad does go on the computer to go on the internet.

Um, I think my grandma needs that book! My dad (who has been coveting the iphone 5 which scares me) was telling me he got my grandma an ipad so she could read the Korean newspaper in large print. But yeah, my dad has always been tech savvy - he taught me to program when I was in kindergarten.
