What associations, if any, do you have with the girl name "Cassidy"? Does it make it have preconceived notions about what a person with this name would be like? Any general thoughts about this name? All opinions are welcome but please be kind.

The first thing I thought of was the Old West and the Sundance Kid. Is Cassandra (nn Cassie) an option?

It made me think of a character from Heartland, but nothing bad!

Zero. I know no one with the name and don’t recall any fictional characters with that name. I prefer Cassandra, maybe nn Cassidy?

I used to have a crush on a boy named Cassidy! I've only known it as a boy's name, but I think its nice for a girl's name.

I know a little girl named Cassidy...she's sweet and well behaved...so good associations for me!

I've only ever known a boy named Cassidy, but I always thought it was kind of a "girly" for a boy. No strange or negative associations. My mind doesn't even directly go to Butch Cassidy or anything.

To me, zero. Don't know anyone with that name, no characters from anywhere jump to my mind either.

Sean Cassidy who was a teen star in the 70s or 80s. It also reminds me of Cassie, which is a sweet girl in my class.

A FB friend's husband's name is Cassidy and I also thought it was sort of girly for a boy. But probably b/c I have a younger cousin with the name. I call her Sass.

There was a Canadian show in the nineties called Breaker High (that’s where Ryan Gosling got his start!) that had a character named Cassidy who was kind of ditzy, so that’s what I think of, but I’m probably in the minority. It’s a pretty name, though, and I’m sure it only came to mind because you asked.

To me, it’s more boyish and more of a last name, but I could imagine it working well for a girl since it sounds like Cassie (a girl I knew growing up). There’s a male journalist that I’ve read for years and his last name is Cassidy.

I think of Cassidy from the show Preacher. I love that show and his character so that's a positive for me! I like it as a girl name.

I knew someone by this name growing up who wasn't a nice person, but aside from that personal connection, I don't think there's anything wrong with it as a name.

@erinbaderin: I loved Breaker High!!!
I have no negative connotations with this name. It’s a nice name, but not one of my first choices!

I like it. No specific associations. I picture a sweet, somewhat sassy girl!
I think I would pick Cassandra over Cassidy but that is totally personal preference.

No personal associations however, doesn't have the name qualities that are important to me: classic, strong, beautiful.

Butch Cassidy, which makes me think of The Wild Bunch and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. I think it's probably the case that that'll be the association a lot more men than women will have, but either way he's an irrelevant villain who the next generation will quickly forget. Same thing for the other celebrities and tv characters: our kids' generation won't have any of these associations.
