Well DH is 25 and he still struggles.. Ha! I tease him all the time about it.

I have to look down at my hands every single time and make an L shape. The one that is correct is my left, the one that's backwards is my right.
I literally can't tell otherwise.

@Arden: sometimes I feel too dyslexic to even figure out which L is the right way. It's all the more confusing because in X-rays it's a mirror image... So then I'm always struggling to get it translated from X-ray to real life and back.
Lala has been using the terms right and left correctly. Tonight we were taking a walk and she got the right direction for each turn. Maybe just perfect lucky guesses? I was super bewildered because I struggled so much with this and still remember when I learned to sort it out.

B was just past the age of 2 when he caught on. We taught him the hokey pokey

@Mrs. Jacks: My son gets his rights and lefts correctly too. I'll ask him "Should we go right or left?" and he'll point and say "right!" or "left!". He's 3 though so he's a bit older. He started doing his just this month.

I have a little friend that's 2.5 and uses right and left to give directions while driving and can show you right and left on their body. It gets confusing when someone is facing them & then you have 'my left or your left'? more often it's in kindergarten that it develops, I like to think my little friend is super smart, like lala also, lala is in a Montessori school, right? I seem to remember there often being an emphasis on doing things from left to right (to lead to reading left to right), so maybe that has helped her identify left vs right.

DD seemed to know it around 2, and then she forgot! She's just now back to correctly naming left and right about 75% of the tome.

@HLK208: good idea, and fun way to teach it.
@Honeybee: Isn't it so funny how they do that. Lala stopped trying to sound out words for awhile and she's just starting up again. It wasn't that she couldn't, she just lost interest... So weird!
