My LO is 5 weeks old and I'm planning to get her a few toys soon. How old was your baby when you introduced the first toys to them and what toys were those?

I started putting Lo in her baby Einstein activity gym at around 4-5 weeks I think. Just for a few minutes a day. I think we gave her a soft rattle at around that age too

In our hospital bag, we brought a knit (wool) dinosaur that a friend made. LO has this dinosaur near him since day one!

Her first toy was her activity mat. I put her on it once we got home...day 3 or 4?

Day one! LO's great aunt made her a teddy bear that my MIL brought to the hospital.

the first toy was the activity mat, and we introduced that the first week for tummy time.
other great first toys include black and white flashcards (easier for babies to see with their poor visions in the early days), mirrors, and cloth books. once they're about 2 months, the winkel and skwish are great. baby einstein take-along tunes is another great first toy.
i have a guide on this coming up...

She had one pretty early. She had a little ball with a rattle in it that she would kick around her carseat, I don't remember how old but probably around 1-2 months.

I know my mom got me a doll the day I was born (an Ice Cream Doll, if anyone remembers them). It always freaked me out - it's head is STILL way bigger than mine. She tried to leave it with me when she last visited, but my husband took one look at it and went "That THING is TERRIFYING!" My mom decided she'd keep the doll so that my husband didn't tear it to pieces. (Sorry. Off topic a bit...)
ETA: It was one of these.... http://www.thestrong.org/online-collections/nmop/2/37/106.2623

LO's first toy was her activity mat. At around 2.5-3 months, she had a Lamaze-brand activity toy with different textures and colours. Then at 3.5 months, she started with her Sophie giraffe and hasn't let go since!

thanks guys but i was thinking more of hand held toys. I wondered what age your LO was able to hold on to a toy?

we started floor tummy time around 4 weeks, which is when we were on the floor too. but he wasn't interested in the activity gym at all until 7 weeks. It was 7 weeks when he liked looking at the animals, or in the mirror on his swing.
As for holding on to toys, he's just mastering the art of "holding" but he more so grabs and obviously not quite intentionally. So he can hold things but briefly and doesn't necessarily do it on purpose. I read that by 4 months they are intentional with their hands.

When LO was a few weeks old we started putting a rattle in her hand. She would wave it atound but not really intentionaly. We also practiced tracking with the rattles around this time too. @Mrsbells: i dont think she held a toy on purpose until 2-3 months, once she found her hands. Even so there are things you can do with small toys now.
