Just curious. DH and I are not planning on seeing fireworks this year and he says we are just enjoying our time without kids and not having to deal with July 4th traffic. But I'm wondering what age do people start taking their LO to see fireworks?

When her bedtime is after it's already dark outside? Probably not before she's 3.

We have some noise canceling headphones for him, so we might try this year? Are we crazy?

LO was born June 8th and we took her to a (relaxed, not crazy) 4th of July party that year (so, almost 1 month old).
We also went to a 4th of July party last year where the fireworks were a lot closer and bigger...both times I wore her and she just fell asleep and slept right through the fireworks!

LO was 3 months old when we brought him last year. We just stayed really far from the fireworks so the noise wouldn't bother him, but he ended up just falling asleep during the show! We plan on bringing him again this year.

Ok well I am the oddball - its way past my kids bedtime so they have never been but I am keeping up DS this year - he is 5.5 -it will be his 1st time and he is so excited!

I will take DS this year. He just turned 3. We can see some from our neighborhood park so it will be low-key.

We took DS last year and he was 14 months old. We aren't sure if we are going to this year, but if we do they will be 2 and 11 months.

DS will be 8 months this year and I don't think it would be a good idea. When he was littler he would've just slept through it. But now I think it'll scare him and mess with his bed time. Plus we'll be at my parents' this year, and the fireworks in my hometown are just way more effort than I feel like making - have to get there super early and it takes forever to get out because traffic is a nightmare.

@GrapeCrush: How did he do at 14 months?
DS is 19 months so I wouldn't normally take him as it's super past his bedtime. But, the 4th is one of my favorite holidays and this is going to be the last one we spend at my grandparent's house as my grandma will probably sell and move to a home soon. I would love for him to have one 4th there.

@grizz: we're trying this year too. Headphones might be a very good idea though, I didn't even think about it!

We did some little street fireworks last year when he was 10 months. This year at 22 months we will probably see some big guys!

This year will be her first year, and she's two. It's not that we've particularly tried to keep her from it, we just haven't made it a part of our plans since she's been around.

Haven't decided if we will take her yet. Her bday *is* July 4th (and she'll be 1 this year), so I figure in the future it will be a very big part of her bday, but since we are doing a big party at lunch, I'm not sure she will be up for it. We might just load her in the car and watch from a parking lot somewhere.

We've gone each year of her life. Some things are worth staying up late for.

We took the kids at 1 and 3 over Xmas and they hated it. Both cried hysterically until we went in the lodge. Will be skipping fireworks for awhile!

last year she was around 8 months or so, and we woke her up from sleeping so we could go outside to see them (we used to live right across from a lake where the town put them off at). she loved it and will take her again this year!
