When I start getting them, I can usually get rid of them by being hypervigilant about leaving any food out! They also seem to love cut up veggies, and leftovers in the sink.

I hate fruit flies! We got a bad infestation at our last apartment. I spent two weeks leaving out vinegar traps before my husband read hairspray would kill them. We killed them all in a few minutes then!

Ew!! Hope you get rid of all of them soon!
I don't have a fruit fly problem right now, but when we first bought our house 5 years ago, my mom left some bananas in a plastic bag on one of the shelves in the laundry room. Well, a couple weeks later we started noticing a horrible fruit fly problem. We googled all sorts of remedies and implemented them. While we caught a ton, there was still an endless amount of them. A few days later, hubby was cleaning out the laundry room and that's how we figured out where the fruit flies were coming from. Poor hubby got a face full when he opened the bag. Such a brave soul. Haha!

I especially hate the ones with the bulging red eyes.

Luckily right now we don't have much, but every now and then we'll get a mini infestation. Hate hate hate them.

I HATE them. I had some plants awhile back that just got like, infested with them. The plants have been gone forever, but there's still a few rogue gnat-y flies left...

@Alivoo01: I literally got chills up and down my arms reading that. Eew.
We don't have a problem now but it's happened. They are so gross. I usually do the vinegar or wine in a cup with plastic wrap with holes poked in it trick, and put all our fruit and veg in the fridge, even the ones that aren't supposed to go in there. When we aren't having a problem, I still make sure to wash the fruits I think will cause a problem, like peaches, bananas, before leaving them out.

We get them like crazy since we grow our veggies in our little garden. I've heard burning incense will kill them, but I keep forgetting to buy some!

Ugh, they are so gross! I use apple cider vinegar & dish soap in a wine bottle - that usually traps 'em pretty quick.

I second the vinegar trick. Add some vinegar to water, a little sugar, and a tiny drop of dish soap. I had an endless infestation that finally went away using this. Good luck!

My mom had a problem and it was a plant they were living in. She always pours bleach down the drains when they start up because she swears it helps keep them away.
