What do you think. Maybe a nickname of Rory.

Do you think it "counts" as a nod towards a family member Laura?

Love the name. I don't think people will make the connection to Laura without being told though.

I love Aurora! It's a family name for us, but several cousins around E's age all used aurora so we took it off our list

I think Aurora is a beautiful name. And the nn Rory is perfect. Makes me think of Gilmore Girls, and that Rory was pretty much awesomesauce.

love the nn rory, but don't really like aurora...just NMS, too princess-y for me!

I have a three year old niece Aurora
her mom nicknamed her 'Aura'
Rory is one of my favs and I love it for the nn of Aurora!

I love it - it means goddess of the dawn and reminds me of the aurora borealis. I think it's a gorgeous - and strong - name. I'm big on strong names for girls.

I like it but I don't think people will assume a connection to Laura.

I'm not a big fan of Aurora...I feel like it is difficult to say. I think Rory is adorable, though. Why not just use that name? I'm a big fan of naming your child the name you plan to use...like, if you name your son Samuel because you like the name Sam. I'd just use the name Sam! Know what I mean?

@T.H.O.U.: I love Aurora. It was on my list but DH wasn't a fan. Boo! As to it being a nod to a Laura in your family I think that is totally plausable. We are leaning toward the name Evelyn which would "count" toward DH's mom Lynn

Like Aurora, LOVE Rory! I don't think anyone would make the connection though.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@bunnylovesbear: these are exactly my concerns. I feel it's kinda hard to say. And for my daughter we did just name her what we call her. But in this case I think we would use both names.

I like the way Aurora looks on paper, but I find it difficult to say. So, I'm not sure that I would use it.
I have a fondness for this name, though, because I love Chopin, and his lover was Aurore Dupin, the French writer who published under the male pseudonym George Sand.

@T.H.O.U.: Well if you like both names, then go for it!!
Practice using the name around the house for a few days to see if it feels right for your family. I do think people will initially make the connection to the Disney Princess, though... I can see the connection to Laura, as well. I think you'd need to mention it, though. It's not blatantly obvious.
Our current top boy name is Zachary because I see it as a nod to my grandmother, Zakie (pronounced with a short a sound). I don't think people will realize the connection on there own, but when I explain it, I think it will make sense. Lol.

I want to like it but as others have said, I find it difficult to say!! I loooove Rory though!

I know a beautiful little girl name aurora and her nickname is Rory too!
I don't find it hard to pronounce at all. And I doubt pronunciation for others will be an issue seeing as it's a Disney princess.

I like Rory. Aurora I strongly associate with Sleeping Beauty… I don't think I've ever heard it anywhere else.
cantaloupe / 6669 posts
It just makes me think of Sleeping Beauty, and a princess name would not be my first choice. Absolutely love the nickname Rory! I agree that you should just name her that.

Love the name! A girl at daycare has that name and DS loves to say it! It was one of the first names he said

@locavore_mama: I think I'm thinking of the same Aurora
I love the name! so pretty and Rory is so sweet!
@bunnylovesbear: I don't necessarily agree! My son's name is Jacobi and we mostly call him Cobi - but my husband didn't want to name him his nickname - and we have actually started calling him equally between the two names. I'm glad he can choose between the two. I do know some people who are named the nickname version of a name, and people always assume it's short for something - and they find that annoying. Just personal preference I'm sure

I think it's pretty! I don't think I would use a NN though. I went to HS with a boy named Rory.

I like Anora a bit better because it's easier to pronounce, Aurora is a mouthful, but the nn Rory is cute!

I love the name Aurora! I don't find it hard to say, and as long as you and your family don't then I don't see the issue there! The nn Rory is adorable, too, and I can absolutely see the connection with the name Laura, although I wouldn't make it on my own.

I love the name Aurora! It is my #1 pick for a girl. DH is warming up to it...However everyone else in our family doesn't love it. The nn Rory is pretty awesome in my opinion.

I really like the name Aurora, but unfortunately we live right next to a town called Aurora, so everyone would just automatically think of that place.
Eta: Everyone who lives here can pronounce the name just fine!
honeydew / 7295 posts
I love that name so much and I would have used it for my girls name but a girl we know well took it so my husband didn't want to. It's an awesome and beautiful name.

Love it! and love Rory.... umm- if I ever have a little girl- that is totally going to be on my list!
