I do like the name a lot! It's a bit of an awkward sound to make, I think (I have a cousin Laurel whose name is the same for me in terms of difficulty), but I don't think it's so tough as to preclude using it. I love Rory too. Personally, it's Aurelia that's made my short list.

Rory is so cute! It would work as a NN for Laurel too, which might be closer to Laura.

@wonderstruck: I'm a Disney nut too.
Love love love aurora. It's on our short list for future LO.

I like Rory better than Aurora, which while pretty, is not my style mostly due to the princess connection. Have you considered Lorelei nn Rory? I think that was the full name in Gilmore Girls and could be a nod to Laura too.

I find it difficult to say - it's a bit of a mouthful. I like Elora / Alora much better.
@T.H.O.U.: sorry it got the veto!

love aurora, but it would have been too much with our last name! bummer DH nixed it!

I do find it a mouthful but I see it's off the table now. I was going to suggest Auralie...and its various spelling options or maybe Lara if you don't like Laura.

This is and always has been my dream daughter name. Absolutely beautiful

I LOVE Aurora, especially with Rory as the nickname. DH vetoed it though, because we lived in Denver during the Aurora shooting (and had friends who lived within a mile or so of the theater). He can't get past that association. Also, our first choice girl name is a name from Doctor Who, and we wouldn't want a second girl to be from that too. (Rory is a major character.)
@bunnylovesbear: I actually totally diagree with naming a child the nickname you want. I changed my name multiple times during high school before settling, because I really didn't like the nickname I grew up with. If I had been just named that, I'd have been stuck with a name I didn't like. My name (Elizabeth) gave me a lot of options.

@Mrs. Pen: @locavore_mama:
My daughters name is Aurora, and we call her Rory. No one has ever had a problem saying it. And honestly, most people don't associate it with sleeping beauty, unless they love Disney. And whenever anyone hears her name, they just say how beautiful it is.
@T.H.O.U.: too bad he vetoed it! It's a pretty name
ETA: we also live close to a town that has Aurora in the name...it was a concern of mine at first, but the name just fit her, so I didn't care

Ok, I asked DH to really consider it. He said he would mull it over for a while. For some reason he said he could live with the name Aurora but really doesn't like the nickname Rory.

Wow, lots of love for Aurora! I love it in theory, especially with the nn Rory, but in reality, I can't really say it without really focusing on it, so I think I would always worry about LO being able to say her own name, especially in the preschool years....

@T.H.O.U.: Just wondering, did your DH ever come around? My DH was unsure at first but after remembering that Foo Fighters have a song called Aurora, he likes it...but only for a middle name. And it doesn't go well at all as a middle name for any of the first names we really like. Booo!

We have a really good family friend with that name. I think it's really pretty and love the nickname.

I actually have always really loved the name!
Since reading Sleeping Beauty, my first Disney book I remember!
