There is a child in my daughter's day care class who has a serious biting problem. He regularly bites other children, and almost constantly chews on his own hands. He's also relatively aggressive in that whenever another child enters the classroom he runs right up to them and gets in their face. I know this very well could all just be a normal developmental phase but he's 14 months and they have had problems with him biting since he was 10 months old. My understanding is that they are bringing in a "specialist" to help and if that doesn't work, the day care will disenroll him. Part of me wonders if he is on the autism spectrum or has some other sensory issue based on him constantly chewing his own hands. But I don't know how to suggest this to the teachers/director, or if I even should. I would feel terrible for his parents if he essentially got kicked out of school, but at the same time, they can't leave him there when he's a constant danger to the other children. My good friend's daughter came home with two horrible bruises on her arms because he bit her twice in one day.
