Ellie is only southern to me if you use Miss Ellie...the matriarch from the original Dallas TV show.
I love Ellen/Ellis/Ella.

@sandy: I love Ava Quinn. Joann is after my aunt who died from childbirth, so it makes me happy to honor her.
@looch: I've never heard of that show! I will have to look it up,

@loki: I love Ava too much to use Eva. I would change that first letter to an A all the time lol.

I love them both but would preference Ava as I think the -ley last name would be a bit of a mouthful as Ellie -ley! And really, Ava is such a beautiful name - there's a reason it is popular!

I think both are lovely, but Ellie *may* be a little much with the last name I'm pretty sure is yours Have you considered Ada? Ada Joann sounds nice, and would work with your last name, and has the lovely double A like Ava

I LOVE Ellie. It's one of my favorite names. It does sound southern, though... that's one of the reasons I like it.

I voted Ellie, but I am biased since thats our 8 week olds name. It's sweet and simple! My cousins daughters name is Ava, and I like that too, but I still vote for Ellie.

Yeah, I vote Ellie too, simply because that's my DD's nickname (she's Elizabeth). I'm not southern in the least, but she ends up being my little Ellie Belle.

I like both but I voted for Ava. I think Ava is a pretty name and Ellie is a cute name.

Speaking of Ellie, my mom just told me "Elly Mae Clampett" died a few days ago . She's in the upper left for those not familiar with the show Beverly Hillbillies. I remember watching the show few as a kid when it was on nick at nite!

I voted for Elle/Ellie because I'm partial to names that are easily nickname-able. Plus (and this might be embarrassing to admit), there was recently an MTV reality character named Ellie with a real spitfire personality, and she was a riot!

@MediaNaranja: oh I forgot to respond- Ada Joann was my great great grandmother's name! So it's a little too old fashioned sounding for me. I know I lnow, Ava is close to Ada, but Ada was mean too lol!

I voted for Ava. But if you (or DH) love Ellie, what about Eleanor as a full name with Ellie as the nickname? It avoids the rhyming with your last name.

Both are lovely but I like Ava slightly more. I think it sounds adorable with Joann.
