Does anyone know what the current recommendations are for traveling to Florida? Specifically, Disney? We would like to plan a trip there next year, but I'm concerned about Zika (possibly will be TTC or pregnant).

@winniebee: I just went in August and I was I think 7 or 8 weeks at the time. At the time it was strictly in Miami but Disney is sure to keep you safe. In our hotel they have bottles of Cutter and in all the parks, even Disney springs, there is Cutter stations, where they spray you down. I've had two ultrasounds since Disney and the baby is great and I didn't get bitten while down there.

@bubblegum: That is great to know. I am not pregnant but I am going to be around pregnant people when I return from a trip.

I'm FL and I would definitely go! No travel advisories or cases on local news!
With that my OB did advise not to travel to Miami/Dade county area, where they had over 29 cases

@bubblegum: Good to know! We're planning a trip for next fall and will probably be TTC a few months later. Of course things could get worse by then.

@808love: @FaithFertility: @SKINNYCOW: Yeah they make sure you're covered! Just double and triple check the CDC before going.

I'm currently pregnant and my doctor said not to travel to Florida at all. I'm sure that Disney has sprays out everywhere, but it wasn't worth the risk so we are staying put for Christmas.

I went back in April (6-7 weeks along) and wasn't too worried, but Zika had not been found in the U.S. at all at that point. If I was planning to be pregnant next year, I wouldn't plan a trip down there. Too hard to know what the situation will be like next year, and it would be disappointing to have to cancel or spend the whole time being anxious. If I really wanted to do Disney, I'd probably plan DisneyLand, or a Disney cruise that went to non-Zika locations.

I went a few weeks ago while 7 weeks pregnant. Didn't get bitten once, and I'm usually a mosquito magnet (I also didn't use bug spray). Disney does a really good job of controlling mosquitoes, but ultimately it's up to you and whether or not you want to take a risk. We stayed solely on Disney property. Since you have no way of knowing what the spread might be like next year, maybe only make reservations you can definitely cancel? (i.e., if you're flying, get a refundable fare, and don't rent DVC points to book your resort since typically you can't cancel or change those reservations).

Thanks! My husband brought up going to Disney in the spring and I said I didn't think it was a good idea, but I was curious what you all had been hearing. I wouldn't want a single extra risk with my next pregnancy given my history, so I'm guessing we will just wait until we are done having children to go.
