I was put on it after two miscarriages. I did baby asprin from conception (while ttc) until 32 weeks. It was in case of clotting disorders causing the MC. I also did progesterone from 3dpo until 12 weeks.

It's low dose, the same as recommended for heart conditions etc to thin the blood a bit. If you do go on it make sure to put pressure on your arm after blood tests for at least 10 min otherwise you can get crazy bruising!

@winniebee: I had my only successful pregnancy on it. My OB suggested it was standard procedure after multiple losses. I think they can test for clotting issues or just put you on it.

I took it after a miscarriage and stillbirth- found out I have a blood clotting disorder. I stopped it after my last baby arrived safely (I also had to have blood thinner shots daily during that pregnancy).

I took it during my IVF cycle and through 10 weeks (standard practice, so no specific reason). Maybe they wrote it down wrong and it should have been on it through 16 weeks? I don't see why you would start it later as it seems to make most sense to start from conception.

I know of one friend who kept having miscarriages and took it during her last IUI round. Not only did it help maintain the pregnancy, but she had twin girls!

My MFM started me on it in the second tri because I'm high risk for blood clots due to a genetic mutation. It's in addition to blood thinners.

I found a bottle of baby aspirin in my drawer recently and cannot *for the life of me* recall when I was taking it or why, so maybe this is the answer! (I had had a previous m/c before my successful pregnancy). Postpartum amnesia is real.
