Really stupid question, but how many clothing items should you bring to the hospital for the new baby? Or do they have a standard shirt or something that they usually wear? I know to bring the coming home outfit, but what else?

We just took the bringing home outfit and when they did pictures DD wore that. When I help in the nursery at the hospital I work almost all of the babies are wearing the hospital provided clothes. Who wants to bring extra clothes that you will have to wash when you get home, or worse end up losing if they have a blowout in the nursery and the clothes get lost.

We only brought the going home outfit. The hospital here requires that all babies wear their shirts because there is a tracking sensor so if the baby "walks by" any of the exits (stairwell and/or elevator) without a nurse first putting in a code an alarm goes off.
I'd check with your hospital to see if they have anything like that.... it should help you decide.

She was in a white kimono wrap long sleeved and swaddles in a hospital blanket the whole time. So we brought two coming home outfits, one in NB and one in 0-3 months not knowing what size she'll be.

Our hospital provides clothes. I'm taking two outfits and two blankets (that match the outfits, natch). If we take pictures while she is there, we'll put her in one of the outfits (one is infant, the other is 3 months).

British hospitals provide nothing for you, so I brought a couple onesies, pants and her coming home outfit. They did have little mini hospital gowns and she wore that for the first day or so of our 5 day stay.

The hospital provides clothes so we only needed the coming home outfit.

we only brought the coming home outfit because we did skin to skin time basically all the time. Any time he wasn't on my chest/tummy, I had him swaddled in an aden & anais blanket and that was enough. We had the room pretty warm so he didn't need another layer.

I took two outfits for coming home since we were team green. LO stayed in the hospital provided side snap longsleeve t-shirt and was swaddled unless doing skin to skin. We did put DD in one of the outfits for going home and the other for pictures (they were both pretty gender neutral but different styles because she was born 4/1 and I didn't know what the weather was going to be like when we headed home).
This time I will probably bring two again but a gender specific if girl (since we have some) and a gender neutral if boy; we're team green again.

LO wore what they provided until we went home. I brought two outfits because I knew she'd be big so I wanted options for sizes.
