Hi all, my sister is currently about 8 weeks pregnant with her second. She had her first ultrasound yesterday. The ultrasound tech said the baby was measuring at about 6 weeks, two weeks behind. There was a fairly strong heartbeat at 115. Any positive stories that didn't end up in miscarriage. We have a family history of miscarriages. She and I both had one prior to our first baby. She goes back for another ultrasound in two weeks to make sure there is still a strong heartbeat. She's not feeling very optimistic. Any positive stories?

Could she be off on her dates? If there is some wiggle room there, then I think the strong hb is a good sign. However, if she is pretty sure of her dates, then unfortunately I would not expect a good outcome

My son who is now 13.5 months measured 8 days behind at our first ultrasound but had a strong heartbeat, my second child measured exactly the same I hope to hear the HB again friday. (I'm 12weeks pregnant)
Is she absolutely sure of her O date because that could be all it is.

@Worrywart: Any chance she has long cycles or ovulated late?

I'd ask if she knows exactly when she ovulated/conceived too. I was measuring at least a week behind; but after tracking her growth which was on track, my EDD just got pushed back, that's all. Best wishes

@Banana330: She's pretty confident of her last period date. They were NTNP so she wasn't tracking ovulation. Hopefully the strong heartbeat is a positive sign.

@Worrywart: I wouldn't worry if she doesn't know her O date, LMP is just an estimation for baby age that's why they do dating ultrasounds.

If they are going only on LMP, I wouldn't worry yet. Saying it measured "late" is just based on an assumption that she ovulated at the average time. If she ovulated late, the fetus could be right on track.
Two weeks off would mean a very long cycle though. Does she have a history of long or irregular cycles?
My measurements didn't match with LMP either, but I didn't let the tech worry me because I knew I ovulated late. I'm 25 weeks now.

I measured 12 days behind when I had my US at 8 weeks since my LMP. I was worried since I had read stuff on board that resulted in miscarriages. But the doctor wasn't concerned at all since the heartbeat was strong. He is now a healthy almost two year old!
I will be thinking of your sister.
