DH and I were all set on this name until Frozen came out! Is a Disney princess name a dealbreaker? What do you think of the name aside from that? Older sister's name is Luisa. We won't find out gender for another month, but I'd like to be settled on baby names before then! I also like Ella a lot, but it's pretty high on the SS list. Any other ideas that would go nicely with Luisa? It doesn't have to end in an -a, but I often like names that do!

I think it is fine, so long as you are okay with a bump in popularity. Right now it is in the 500s on the SSA list though, so even if it has a big bump, I highly doubt it will be a top-50 name in the next 5 years.
But, take that with a grain of salt because we're naming our daughter Fiona, which I've already had like 5 people ask me "Oh like Princess Fiona from Shrek?" lol. (to which I answer "well that's her name, but we didn't exactly name her after an ogre princess...")

I love Lidia and I think it goes perfectly with Luisa. It's on my short list. It's hard to tell what will happen with Elsa. It's a children's movie, so I wouldn't think it would have as much of an effect as something like Friends (Emma) or Twilight (Bella.) The potential popularity and having people ask if you named her after Frozen though would be enough for me to reconsider.

I love Elsa, it was on our very short list for DD.
BUT I do really worry about it's popularity after Frozen. Others that you might consider: Lydia (may be too similar to Luisa, which I LOVE btw), Nina, Elisa, Blanca, Tea (pronounced Tay-ah), Maura, Joanna, Claudia, Amalia.*
*Randomly, I know two people named Amalia - one pronounces it "Aww-ma-leah" and the other "Ah-mal-yah."

I love it and I think if it is your favorite you should just go for it. I do think it will spike but can you think of any little girl who wouldn't love or at least be amused by sharing a name with a princess? And by the time she is a teen it won't even come up. Plus not many adults will even know the association.

I think it is a beautiful name, but I think it will always be linked to the movie Frozen.
That wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, but I think it's going to be the Ariel of this coming generation. Ariel is a beautiful name, and I know several people with the name, but it will always make people think of the Little Mermaid.
Luisa makes me think of the Sound of Music, and I love the names Leisl and Marta. It would obviously be a direct connection, but I think they both sound great with Luisa.

For me that's a dealbreaker, but we're very set on not having an overly popular name. We've dropped several that we love because they started to go way up in popularity, and I do think Elsa will. Children's movie or not, it's HUGE. I've never seen it and that was my first thought when I saw the thread title. If it's not as big of a deal for you, and you love it, go for it!

We avoided a Disney princess name... But to be fair, Elsa is a much more ubiquitous name so less taboo than Ariel or Belle...

Love Elsa! Haven't seen frozen though so I didn't think of it.... Besides Elise or Elsie, you could also spell it Ilsa-- I had a great aunt who spelled it that way. Or isla, pronounced ay-la like the actress isla fisher, is also such a pretty name

I like the name Elsa a lot, but aside from the potential popularity spike, I actually think the sounds might be too close to Luisa. I think Elise is even more similar. If I were pairing something with Luisa, I might go with something like Elisabetta nn Elsie/Elsa/Ella.

Ahh, I just love feedback from HB, thank you all! I think I will end up passing on Elsa because of the Frozen thing, especially since there will probably be a popularity jump and since we liked it before the movie came out! Elsie is the name of a pretty famous cow down here in Texas, so there is no way I'd ever use it, but if it didn't have that association for me I think that would be a great solution!
@Mae: We have considered Fiona, I think it's really pretty! I could see the Shrek thing getting annoying, but obviously you didn't name her after a troll! Super cute name for a little girl.
