@tororojo: two things about Isla... one, it sounds just like it looks, so I don't think pronunciation is really an issue, and two, it is pretty well known (although not at all common) because of Casablanca.

Also, I *so* feel you on DH and vetos... I made a long list of names for my husband when we started thinking names, and he rejected 99% of them, including a name I loved. FF many many months and many many tense discussions about names... DH finally comes to me (at 36 weeks!) with a name he loves and wants to use. The same freaking name I loved and he vetoed from the original list! He just wanted to spell it a different way. Sheesh! Men!!

It sucks but I think I would pass on the name because of the popularity. I really liked Isabella, so Bella for short but with the whole Twilight thing became super popular.

I think if you really love it you should just go for it. I know it's probably going to get more popular, but I think it's adorable and sounds great with Luisa!

@septca: I have learned from having a daughter named Luisa that no matter how straightforward you think something looks, people can totally screw up the pronunciation. (Like loo-WEE-zuh...ugh) I think we would hear "izz-lah" enough to annoy me, not that it's a total dealbreaker. DH does the same thing and brings up names sometimes that I've suggested and he has already vetoed! Men like for it to be their own idea, or else they just have horrible memories--I think both are true for DH.

I love the name Elsa. Frozen be damned, use it if you two like it.

If you like Elsa and Isla, have you considered Ailsa? It's a Scottish name, not German, but it is one of my favorites.
