My mom mentioned that I need to get the baby on a daytime napping schedule. So if your baby sleeps 12 hrs at night with 2 feeding a mixed in, how many and how long would their naps need to be? What's your baby's schedule like?

Can't remember how much older Z is than my Aaron, but for the moment (he's 9 weeks tomorrow), I'm not really worrying about it. Everyone has told me that naps naturally consolidate around 3-4 months, and that if you need to put them on a schedule it won't really work before then anyway. I pretty much let Aaron sleep whenever he gives me tired cues - sometimes thats 45 mins awake time, sometimes more like 2 hours, and he will sleep anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours. More often than not its two short sleeps in the morning, one longish sleep in the early afternoon, and his longest sleep starts about 3 and goes anywhere from 5 to 7. Then he's up a couple hours in the evening, until bedtime at 8, 9 or 10. So, no real rhyme or reason. As of 10 weeks I'm planning to keep closer track of his sleep so I can start to see if he's consolidating.
If you do want to get her on a schedule, there are a heap of them online, you can search Tizzie Hall (she's an Aussie "sleep whisperer" - controversial but some people swear by her routines) for some examples.
Hope everything is going well with your little one!

L has started to fall into a routine this past week (8 weeks old). We are still trying to figure out bed time, but he goes down for a short nap about an hour after waking (30-45 minutes. Then he's awake 1.5-2 hours and back down for a short nap 30-60 minutes, but it can be as long as 1.5-2 hours). Then he has his longest awake time (2-3 hours) and his longest nap (usually at least 2 hours). I've been trying to put him down for nighttime 3-4 hours after he wakes but it has been a struggle. He's been going down between 9 and 10 pm. Then he wakes around 2-3am, eats and is back down an hour or so later. Then he usually does another 2.5-3 hours and is up for the day. If it's a day I don't work I try to put him down again but he usually will only sleep another hour or so.
He's not sleeping 12 hours a night (it's more like 9-10), but he really started to show me this schedule this week. I just started started tracking when he fell asleep and this pattern emerged...it sounds like it's a pretty typical schedule? I would honestly just keep track of when she's sleeping and I bet you'll start to see a pattern!

Truthfully with my first, I was all about schedules and stuff. With my second, she sttn same as yours so I am like screw a schedule. I have to have one to give to daycare but it's super loose. I don't want her taking any naps longer than 2 hrs and in between feedings which are at 9/12/3. IMO, just keep doing what you're doing.

Take anything I say with a grain of salt, since C was a pretty terrible sleeper for a while, but I think two months is usually too young to have any real schedule. I focused more on awake times- so if she woke up at six, I knew she would have to nap again within 1.5 hours, and just kept the awake times to under 2 hours if I could. I also didn't worry about really long naps, except at the end of the day.
But I have a friend who swears by Babywise. She followed the schedules outlined in the book and her son STTN, no feedings, at 12 weeks.
Baby sleep science has great blog posts about sleep at different ages (former Isis sleep consultants). They are on Facebook I can find the link if you are interested.

Xander never had a set schedule (besides a set bedtime), but at 12 weeks, he would be awake for about 2 hours at a time and then require a nap. So he'd usually get 3-4 naps in during the day.

Depends a lot on age! Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child has a nice discussion of naps by age. Newborn, no more than about 2 hours of awake time then nap. Roughly 6-12 months, about 2 or 3 naps is normal.

Unless you really want a schedule type of deal, I would suggest you go more for a routine. Like wake up, eat, read books, play mat nap, then round two might be wake up, eat run errands or go for a walk, nap, then eat play time, sing songs, read a book nap. If you get a similar rhythm going each day and make the nap routine consistent at least one of the times it will help as she gets bigger. Eating after nap instead of before can help with the nurse to sleep association so she will at least have the experience of having gone to sleep without nursing.
If memory serves me correctly though she is still itty bitty so I wouldn't worry too much about it. As a nanny I found it helped me enjoy the day more when I had a basic outline for a day to go off of even if we had to chuck parts of it almost every day so I like it from that perspective but I wouldn't worry about the clock too much.

No schedule here. I think they're more hassle than they are worth, we have a horrible sleeper but he's super easy going. My friend has a great sleeper but still at 11 months can't leave the house at nap or bedtime, my kid will just chill out if he's tired or sleep being held, hers will cry loudly until she's put in her crib.

I am so glad you guys said no schedule!!! I told my mom that we are happy that she at least has her bedtime and sleeping a good chunk of the night down, she can nap as she goes. But my mom insisted I need a schedule. Thanks guys!!,

We didn't settle into any sort of 'schedule' until between 4-6 months. Maybe even later.
Now at 9 months, she takes 2 naps; one around 9:30 and one around 1:00.

How old is she? Around 2 months? At that point we had no schedule, it took her ages to fall asleep and that was mostly on the go or being worn. We just tried to get her down when she seemed tired, which I think was still around an hour after waking at that age.
