The big box of huggies refills come with a box. We have them spread around the house and have used some for crafts.

So after two years here are my conclusions:

1) you do need a box mechanism for the wipes in your main changing area (changing table) and maybe in the living room or somewhere else you may do frequent changes. It's easier to grab a wipe with one hand from a pop-up box while the other is holding your baby's ankles. I always bought one of the tubs of wipes and then just used refill bags to keep refilling them.
*note: they do make cute more "permanent" tubs, like by oxo tot. I do really like theirs, HOWEVER, my changing table has a tray on it for all of the baby things and the oxo tot tub/holder is wider than the tray. So it doesn't fit. So just keep that in mind if you do decide to get one of those. They are nice (have a weight to hold the wipes down so you only pull one at a time). Necessary? No. looks nicer and lasts longer? Yes.

2) don't buy or register for too many of one kind of wipe before baby arrives. Because you may hate them or baby may react to them. I got pampers wipes because I got pampers diapers and how else would I decide. I actually hate pampers wipes, even though many love them. I gave away a ton because I couldn't stand using them anymore. Waste of $$$.

3) I happen to like the travel cases for wipes. The wipes pop-up like the box you use at home, whereas with a baggie you have the same issue as if you just used the refill bag at home - stick together and harder to grab one with one hand. And you don't have to keep rebuying a travel pack, if you get a refillable one, just use the same refills that you use for your home changing station. I also don't like the travel packs because here's what happens:
You get a new travel pack. Put it in your diaper bag. You use it. And use it. And use it. One day you are ready to leave home and notice that there are only maybe 10 wipes left. That may not be enough. So you then have one partially used and one full in your bag. Inevitably I always ended up with multiple almost-gone packs and it's annoying. Or you take the partial one out and leave it home and end up with a collection of almost gone packs of wipes at home. With the refillable one (oxo tot also makes one of these) you don't have as much waste, in my opinion. You just keep refilling with whatever you like.

I use the Costco wipes so I don't technically need a seperate container.

But for my second baby I got the oxo tot wipes dispenser and it.is.awesome. So easy to open and close and you get the "perfect pull" every time. It sounds so stupid and trivial but I really appreciate it more that I thought I would

Great question! I have 3 different wipes dispensers in the house and 2 for travel (cause I thought I lost one). I have a wipes warmer on the changing table (only really useful for newborns) that I put the refills in. Then I have another refillable container in the living room. @Goldengirl: hmm I don't know about ingredients to be honest. I just like Costco because they're thick, they are unscented, and a big box lasts me a long time. A couple times I've run out (nearest Costco is 2 hours away ) and had to use pampers until I can stock up, and I always miss my Costco wipes when using other brands

Another Costco wipes user here. The tips are hard plastic and snap, so are better than the resealable tops that are sticky and lose their stick over time. The wipes lids looks like this:

I am not a stickler for ingredients, to me thickness and the feel are more important. I like the Costco ones a lot for the same reasons @Charm54 mentioned. But I mainly stick with Huggies Simply Clean because I think they are similar and I like buying the huge refills vs the individual packs. Though as far as individual packs go costco/Kirkland are the BEST. Huggies are thick and I buy the unscented ones. And the liquid they use isn't slimy or slippery (that's my issue with pampers).

If you want truly simple and natural, water wipes are great. Pro is that the material is nice and it's literally just water. Cons are that they are expensive and the packaging suuuucks. You definitely have to use the oxo tot wipes box for them.

We get the Pampers Sensitive wipes with the hard top (travel kind) because we are almost never home. No Costco here.

I have both of these types of containers. The clutch type for the diaper bag and the hard plastic one in the nursery on the change table, but I used to just have a clutch one in there too for occasional use. Mustela sensitive skin wipes are nice. I used them for the first 2 weeks, then just used the huggies natural care ones. I don't mind the Kirkland wipes as well. I don't go through very many wipes unless I'm out or it's a messy poo; I use cloth wipes with water even though I use disposable diapers 95% of the time. I agree with pp saying test out different wipes.

I use Target wipes and they have their own pop top on the package. I find it a lot simpler than loading the wipes into a separate box.

@Goldengirl: as you can see, varied opinions here. When it comes down to it, it will be a lot of trial and error and your own preferences.

Another lover of Costco Wipes here. They are so much bigger than any of the other ones. We have multiple packages all around the house.

So we are a family that uses wipes for EVERRRATHANG. We keep them in every bag, every car, stroller, kitchen table, kitchen island, changing areas - everywhere. So GENERALLY speaking the wipes with the hard snap top (the travel kind) are the most versatile but we prefer the tubs in the kitchen and changing areas.

However, you're going to find that wipes are SO different by manufacturer and the TYPE of wipes you need actually change as time goes on or the texture of your kid's BMs change. For instance, for pee diapers, I prefer the thin, less wet, clingier wipes like Target or Amazon. For poops, I like a thicker, wetter wipe, like Huggies Simply Clean, but not as slippery as Pampers. For wiping hands at the table, Huggies One and Done wipes are great (they are coarser and more like wet paper towels, so I wouldn't use them for butts).

For sensitive skin babies, like my second child, Seventh Generation Thick and Strong are THE BEST. They are pricey, but even the travel case packaging is superior, the wipes are strong and not too wet, and I only ever need 1, MAYBE 2 wipes whereas with the cheaper ones I can easily go through 6-7. I would say if I'm not looking at price these are my favorites. The closest mainstream ones I've found are Huggies Simply Clean. I have admittedly not used Costco ones before (shocking because I buy everything at Costco) mostly because we were not a fan of the Costco diapers and I didn't want to commit to a huge box of wipes I may hate.
