Did any of you watch these matches? one of the chinese competitors is quitting because of she was disqualified and is very upset about it. Do you think it was fair to disqualify them?
I didnt watch the match but if they were intentionally playing to lose then I think I agree with the disqualification

I get it that it was "strategy" on their part to have an easier next game, just like the Japanese soccer team tied SA at 0-0; but I think that in terms of olympics spirit...and for all those athletes who would've DIED to be in their position, the players did not choose to compete in an arena where they should have put their best foot forward. I agree with the DQ.

I agree with the DQ. Yes, it's a strategy but it's takes away from the spirit of play.
ETA: Have you seen any of the footage? If you're going to lose on purpose, could you at least try a little harder at faking it??? Dang.

@Rubies: no joke! Based the footage I've seen, they certainly deserved to be DQ'ed, especially since they were warned by the officials and continued very obviously to throw the game.

@Rubies: I totally agree!!! It was actually pretty ridiculous watching them continuously hitting the birdie into the net. Did they really think they were fooling anybody?

I saw footage of them throwing the games. They definitely should've been disqualified! This is the Olympics, at least pretend you're putting up a good fight.

I saw the headline but didn't read much into it. I need to check out the footage. I agree if they are trying to lose and not even trying they should be DQ'd.
I guess it's different when swimmers don't try as hard because they know they are already going to finals. They don't end up in last place. Instead of being first in a semi-final, they are second or third.
