Will you watch with your kids? Any links to fun activities or meals to get them excited about it?

@regberadaisy: Why? I'm genuinely curious, not trying to be snarky. I just watched An American Experience last night about the IOC and Berlin/Hitler and it made me seriously consider not watching.

Our playgroup is having an Olympic Games of our own tomorrow with an opening ceremony, torch relay, games and Olympic themed snacks. My kids won't watch the opening ceremonies because of dinner and bedtime, but they'll watch some of the events. DD1 is especially excited about gymnastics and Simone Biles.

For the adults a homemade caipirinha is something to enjoy during the opening ceremonies. We don't have regular TV and will miss out on the festivities. The Carnival costumes should be fabulous.

Am definitely going to watch... Now I'm inspired to do something fun!!! DD saw some of the trials and now she wants to be "a gymnastics girl" and an "Olympic jump in the water girl" (aka diving) hahahaha. We actually had a long talk about how she is going to the Olympics for diving this year, but she doesn't think she can win because she can't swim with her head underwater yet hahahahahaha.

@Mrs. Cereal: just all that's coming to light in recent years about what these countries do to host. They force people from their homes kicking and screaming to build these gargantuan facilities. With zero plans for how they're used post Olympics. As an architect this brothers me on many levels.
There's stories of illegal workers brought in to build these structures and how unsafe working conditions are. The death tolls are high, when architects speak out, they're fired. The IOC is clearly not doing their job. Some of that came to light during Beijing and it seems to be getting worse. These horrible lodging facilities? Just seems to no longer be about celebrating extraordinary athletes.

@regberadaisy: Agree with you! This is why I really think they should stop the madness of the host city changing and just have one place to host summer and one place to host winter.

Depends on what time it is. Is it a prime time event? Then no, she will be in bed and I'll watch alone downstairs. I want to pull her in for gymnastics and diving, though if they come on on the weekends.

@mediagirl: Yes! I was looking up the gymnastics schedule yesterday. I think there is an event that is on Saturday morning.

@T.H.O.U.: oh fun, thank you for posting that. I loved watching gymnastics with my mom when I was a kid. I can't wait to watch with my daughter!
