I mean, I wasn't expecting London to be anywhere near Beijing's level, but seriously, I'm bored to tears. The only good stuff has been the video clips, but this is opening ceremony and if video clips are better than the actual performances then sth is def off.

a big, fat AGREE. i was just commenting this is the worst opening ceremonies in recent memory...i guess following Beijing is a tough spot to have, but really? big groups of dancing people? the crowd can't even see them!

It gets better - I promise! We watched it live in Australia (at 5:30 a.m.!) and it was pretty good overall. There are some random bits in the show but overall, I thought it was great. I wasn't expecting a repeat of China though as I don't think anyone will ever come close to the Chinese in terms of precision!
ETA: Then again, I am a bit partial - I lived in London for several years (including the year they won the bid) so I will always have a soft spot for anything to do with my former home!

@JessLC: it just feels so disjointed too. random skits. unimpressed but the thing is that it could have been sooo good not like Beijing good, but UK has a ton of cool stuff about it.

Mr. Bean, Daniel Craig, and David Beckham can't save this train wreck. The set and costumes are cool but it's been almost 2 hours of ho hum. Come on Parade of Nations.

I'm watching the parade of nations. I know I'm an hour earlier than some of you. (CST) -
I missed it earlier, and am watching a couple different feeds. Right now it's just the parade of athletes, which I do find boring. Was the pagent showing the history of London before that? I thought that was kinda neat.

Maybe because I'm a huge history nerd....but I loved it. Thought it was great. Could have done without the flying-monkey-bikers, because it didn't make sense, but other than that...thought it was well done! They stayed really true to England's character/history, rather than being all about the technology, etc.

I'm on the west coast so I'm just now getting to the torch but wtf? I feel like they were trying way too hard to be intellectual. I really just want to be entertained... maybe I'm not smart enough for this, lol.
