We know a handful of people that have the Strider balance bikes and love them. As for a helmet, we picked one up at walmart.

We got our helmet at walmart as well. I really want to take my son to REI for a proper fitting, but it hasn't happened yet (and he doesn't have a bike to ride, either...good thing we have the helmet).

@mediagirl: I was looking at the Strider. It's the cheaper of the ones I was considering, too!

We got LO a strider. Can't remember name of helmet, we purchased at bike shop.
