No Canadian that I have ever met thinks anything other than disgust/amusement. My husband is obsessed with the whole thing, and he's convinced it's an elaborate piece of performance art.

Disgust. The man is a total joke. Id be falling about laughing if he didn't make me so f***ing angry. He's an embarrassment to your country.

Hmm. I can't speak/read the local language where I live, so I have no idea. I just read a few French news report about his latest idea to block all Muslims. The sense I get is disbelief; they seem to be wondering how this lunatic is still at the top of the Republican polls.

I totally agree with your description of the evolution of feelings towards him here. At first I thought it was kind of funny, in a ridiculous way (like, "Really? People would actually VOTE for this idiot?") But given his increasing bigotry and hate speech, it's not funny anymore. I wish the media would just blacklist him. Stop covering him, stop saying his name, pretend he doesn't exist. Though of course that would never happen.

ETA: part of me almost wants him to be the nominee because I think he could never win. But another part of me would be terrified that, somehow, he could... I can't believe this is a legitimate question. Depressing. A woman I used to work with has actually reposted his tweets and donated $$ to his campaign.

I have been wondering about this as well, and have been scared for/of the answer! @Rockies11: I am also not unconvinced that this isn't the most elaborate trolling effort in the history of ever. However, the fact that he hasn't imploded yet is really starting to make me nervous. The republicans I know *hate* him, but they're clearly not representative of the whole of the party....I guess? eeeeeek

@yoursilverlining: another thing we've actually been discussing is - if he does win the nomination, what would a normal Republican person do in the general election? Not vote? We can't imagine partisanship extends to actually vote for Donald Trump as a rational person.

When I was in Seoul in September, I had several relatives ask me if this was just a big joke - they couldn't believe he was for real. A lot of them shook their heads and said they were in shock that he was making such a mockery of the American political system.

I don't usually pay much attention to it though.

I just heard a report on the radio that a city councilor in my city (Toronto) has started a petition to have Trump's name taken down from the Trump hotel here, so that's a good indication of how Toronto feels after this latest thing.
