Bees outside the US -? About Donald Trump

I'm in the U.S. But have been asking all my friends and family who live internationally and general consensus is they think he's a joke and/or are disgusted. Quite frankly someone needs to put a stop to him because he's becoming a serious danger to the country and national security.

I'm American, and I seriously thought his campaign was a joke for the longest time. Now I'm concerned! I have a history of voting republican, but no way in hell would I vote for this xenophobic, racist, disgusting hater-troll. I honestly don't know one person who is a trump supporter- and I know a lot of conservatives! Every conservative I know think he's insane. Things better change, and fast.

They were discussing him on The National (news program in Canada) about him wanting to ban Muslims and people are pretty disgusted. They interviewed the leaders of the different political parties here and it's one of the only times there has been consensus between them. It makes me wonder though, are Americans in general so afraid of the world that they would elect someone like Trump? That worries me. Good things don't tend to happen because of fear.

I agree with my fellow Canadian bees, all I see is disgust at his policies.
I fear the future of our continent if he is the Republican candidate and ultimately wins the election.
    Stupid racist pig!

@.twist.: lol. i think that is the best idea I've heard in a long time.

@catomd00: WORD. Excuse my language, but I am fucking terrified of what he is doing to this country right now (basically stirring up a huge hate/ fear mongering campaign) and I am so, so beyond disgusted that he could possibly be seen as a representative of our country

As an American, I just wanted to point out that even in states where he is getting a lot of support, it is important to remember that he is only getting support from 30% of 40-ish percent of the population. That is about 12% of the overall population, I think. (only about 30% of republicans are supporting him and only about 40% of the population identify as Republican). Just think it is important to keep that in perspective because most everyone I know is completely disgusted by him here too.

@.twist.: This is kind of off-topic, but I think Amazon actually doesn't make a profit. That's why when you have Amazon Prime and you are buying something, they have incentives for you to NOT use your free two-day shipping and why the cost of Amazon Prime recently went up. They are just breaking even I think.

@pinkcupcake: it's terrifying. And I really hate how he's distracting attention from the other candidates. I'm not a big fan of any of them really but I can't even focus my attention on them enough to make an educated decision.

@Adira: well, my take away from trumps tweet was that he was insulting Bezo. It's my understanding that Amazon makes revenue and profits (although nice) aren't necessary. What I mean is that I don't think Bezo is suffering any and trumps comment was stupid. Like him.

@.twist.: Oh, I agree with you there, haha! Pretty much anything Trump says these days is stupid.

@Adira: Amazon makes a pretty penny! They did like $20 billion in sales in Q3 alone. Also the goal of any business is to have $0 profit so they pay $0 in taxes. I'm sure Bezos just pays himself a insane salary to make sure his company doesn't have to pay corporate rate taxes!!

Well, the talk of BBC in England today is a petition to ban Donald Trump from the UK that garnered more than 100,00 signatures in record time, meaning it will have to be considered for discussion in Parliament. The talk is also on the Metropolitan Police's response to his claim that parts of London are no go zones for the police because of Muslim extremists.

Basically, he is mentioned in the news over here quite frequently but with nothing but the utmost disgust and disbelief.

Fortunately, most people I have come across here naturally assume most Americans do not share his viewpoint, especially ones that they're encountering in the UK as let's face it, the typical Trump supporter is not really the kind of person who is going to be interested in seeing the world and expanding their horizons.....

What's even more crazy to me is that everyone in the republican party that was asked (except Lindsay Graham) said they would support Trump if he was the Republican nominee. Obviously they are just worried about him running third party, but I think it is disgusting.

It's so interesting to see what the rest of the world is reporting about US politics. It's so insane!

How is he leading the polls? And by so much?? Do that many people really support him or are they just polling a bunch of crazies? I really don't understand...it's so embarrassing.

@lawbee11: I actually know people who support Trump. Basically because they're also racists *vomit* I reminded one supporter that a democratic Germany elected an ass clown like that in the 1930s, it took him no time at all to dismantle the democracy, and then it took most of Europe, US and Russia to beat down the monster he created. Hopefully the US is better protected from maniacs dismantling it from within, but I wish I was sure of that.

The sad part is, even if he doesn't get the nomination, the support will remain and someone like him might make it through next time.

    @littlebug: Trump!? LOL.

@lawbee11: Didn't the white house say that he can't run for presidency because of his proposal to ban muslims? I saw a few headlines last night but didn't have time to read any articles.

@Mama Bird: My boss isn't american, but he likes him a lot. He think it "might be what america needs".

@.twist.: I think the White House said he should be disqualified but he hasn't actually been disqualified as far as I know. He's also threatening to run as an Independent now.

@.twist.: I read some articles discussing how his ban wouldn't be legal, but I don't think it stops him from running for President.

@lawbee11: Have you looked at the Donald Trump Facebook page? There's 3 friends of mine that have liked it. I think 2 out of 3 of those friends I can very well see them supporting him. *eye roll*

@jedeve: I totally agree with the fact that a lot of people probably think what he says out loud, which is kind of sad, and that what he says bluntly and rudely, is really the heart of some policies! So I think in that light, he is helpful in making people re-think what they're supporting.

Regarding why trump is leading the polls, I just read this in a BBC article "Many political analysts believe the large number of Republican candidates is one of the reasons Mr Trump had led the polls and that Mr Trump would perform differently once the race consolidated."

I think (fortunately) there is truth to that, many people I know who vote republican are still unsure of who they would support, based on the sheer number of candidates. (and none of them like Trump!) Trump is just loud and outspoken, and maybe people are claiming they would vote for him because no other Republican candidate has made an impression on them yet? Or maybe the people running the polls are trying to troll us? 😬

I'm a staunch Republican and the Trump campaign horrifies me. I would vote Democrat over Trump, he's that egregiously horrifying to me. I hope as the primaries draw nearer in New Hampshire and other early voting states, his campaign fizzles out.

Trump signed a pledge to not run as an Independent, so I hope that he sticks to it. I really thought he was just bored of running his businesses into the ground and was playing around in the beginning, but as this circus continues, I'm getting increasingly concerned.

I think it's dangerous to dismiss Trump and his ideas as a joke or an aberration, or as a uniquely American phenomenon. (Hello, National Front in France). I think he's giving voice to the xenophobia and racism that a lot of people feel. Republicans usually appeal to those voters in much more "polite" terms. ("Immigration reform" "build a wall") The real question is, how to tackle these feelings that he and other far right politicians tap into? Why are so many people so filled with hate and resentment? How do politicians and entities like Fox News feed into it? Many Republicans who are mad at Trump are just mad that a monster of their own making has gotten out of control and isn't playing the game to seem polite.

P.S. I read (maybe in the New Yorker?) that banning Muslims from entering the US isn't illegal/unconstitutional per se. They discussed the internment of Japanese Americans in WWII. Can anyone with more constitutional knowledge with in?

  32. Mama Bird

    pomegranate / 3127 posts

@MoonMoon: I don't think the Constitution specifies who can and cannot immigrate to the US. There are several laws which govern that, which I'm sure could be modified. I think they'd have to be changed through the Congress though - a president couldn't do this unilaterally unless it's somehow done as part of the his role as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. (anyone with more legal knowledge, please correct me if I'm wrong!)

@MoonMoon: I agree. It's really shocking and disturbing. The NY Times had op Ed on this topic today. And really, how *is* what Trump said that different than Cruz or Bush saying we should only admit Christian refugees?

I'm in the US but my husband has said from the moment that Trump entered the race that he was a Trojan horse for the Democratic Party. Basically, he believes his goal is to get support from the extreme right-wing Republicans but then jump ship and run as a 3rd party candidate and split the Republican vote, thereby guaranteeing a Democratic win.

  35. MrsSCB

    pomelo / 5257 posts

@MoonMoon: agreed. I was saying something similar to my husband yesterday. Seems hypocritical for republican leaders to denounce Trump's comments so forcefully, as if talking of "building a wall" literally or metaphorically is all that different...

  36. Applesandbananas

    pomegranate / 3845 posts

@MoonMoon: @MrsSCB: I don't think it's fair to paint the entire Republican Party with the same brush. There are bad apples in both parties
