Have you taken your kids on a Polar Express near you? I was debating taking DD this fall, she will be almost 5. Wondering if I should wait one more year. If you've been, what ages were your kids and did you feel it was optimal age? Too old? Too young?

We’ve done it at 1 1/2, 2 1/2, and 3 1/2. He was pretty into it at 3 1/2. I think 5 is the perfect age!

We did one last year with DD 5 1/2 Kindergartener and DS, my train enthusiast was 3 1/2. They both loved it. DD was already doubting Santa so I'm glad we did it when we did.

We do a Christmas train ride every year (it’s similar to Polar Express). I think around 5 is perfect. That is, unless they’re sensitive to noise—train whistles are LOUD. I might take some hearing protection if they aren’t used to it.

@SweetCaroline: I think that's a great age! We went this year with DD who was 6 and DS who was almost 4, and DD already was doubting Santa / the realness of it, while DS totally believed everything 100%.

We did at age 5 and 6 with my son and I think that age is the sweet spot. My 2 year old also came at ages 1 and 2 and still really enjoyed it but mainly for the cookies and hot chocolate. Ours was a branded Polar Express one so my son really enjoyed seeing the actors dressed like the characters in the book (and even insisted on wearing a button down pj set with a bathrobe over so he looked like the main character). Your 5 year old will love it. I feel like I only have a couple more years of my older believing in Santa.

My in laws take their grandkids (they only have 4) every year. Well, last year was the first year they took all of them. The kids were 6 and 3.5. That seemed like a great age. They started when the oldest were both 2 and that was too young. DS1 was TERRIFIED of Santa for about 2 years

We went when DS was 3. It didn't go well. It was way too long and way too much sitting for him.
