And the best BBQ I have ever had was definitely here in NC. I make a mean one, too but the best is a smoked pig and getting some of the charred outside meat. Mmmm.

I love BBQ and am partial to Eastern Carolina BBQ. My favorite place is Currituck Company BBQ - its a little shack on the road to the Outer Banks.

To me, barbecue = pulled pork. And the best of that is western NC vinegar style... in my opinion. NOM.
The most disappointed I have ever been - visiting friends in Pennsylvania several years ago, they said we were going to have barbecue for dinner... and it was HAMBURGERS AND HOT DOGS!!! Gaaah. NOT barbecue, haha.

We're in Texas and did our own BBQ tour last summer my favorite was Franklin's BBQ in Austin...gotta make another drive there soon.

@MrsADS: HA HA HA you went to a BBQ, they weren't having BBQ. I've finally resigned myself to calling it a cookout down here so people know what I'm talking about.

@mediagirl: it's taken this CA girl 10 years of living on the east coast to get that down. BBQ v. Cookout v. Grilling out. Sigh.

@MrsADS: @mediagirl: This is another reason why PA is such a funny linguistic place. To me (born and raised in Central PA, now living in Philly), barbecue is pulled pork. Having hot dogs and hamburgers is grilling out. But when I lived out in Pittsburgh for grad school, barbecue = grilling out. PA is one weird place.

@mediagirl @littlebug @septca YES!! I was like, "This is a COOKOUT! Not BARBECUE!" Hahaha. I am from the South. Barbecue = pulled pork, cookout = hamburgers and hot dogs! LOL.

@emg86: I live in Austin and I STILL haven't gone to Franklin's. It's just such a commitment with how long the wait is, lol.
I read this article on the best BBQ in Austin and this guy rated LA BBQ better than Franklin's. He said it's just as good, but no wait. Plus free beer, haha.

@abbydabbydoodlebug: We went to LA and it wasn't the same. We spent a day in Lockhart and had BBQ at each meal, lol. When we went to Franklin's we got lucky! We only waited about 45ish minutes. It was soooooo worth it. The brisket melts in your mouth...mmmmm....I've been craving it for weeks!

@emg86: have you been to Cooper's in Llano? It's so amazing! DH and I make a day trip of it by driving to Fredericksburg and shopping, going wine tasting, looking at bluebonnet in the spring, etc. Then we head up to Llano for BBQ. Then we go to Bluebonnet cafe in Marble Falls for the best. pie. ever. Omg, so good. It's the perfect way to spend a Saturday.
