LO loves to be carried on my hip, but at 5 mo and somewhere over 16 lbs she's getting heavy! What is the best carrier for a hip hold? I'm wondering about getting a used ring sling... We used a Moby when she was little and I tried the hip wrap for it and it was super awkward and I didn't like it. We also have an ergo but I'm not sure that's going to be much better! I feel like the front 2 straps scrunched over on the side is not comfortable. Thoughts?

I don't recommend a Beco gemini. You can do a hip carry but I thought it was pretty awkward (probably similar to ergo).

Thanks ladies! I'm sold. Now to find one...would like used because I think I'll just use it around the house, but any suggestions on a decent new one that won't break the bank but isn't going to fall apart either?

Sakura Bloom slings are really nice, but you would want a double layer one which is $$$. I've seen tutorials on making one, and I know a few friends who have done so and they are totally functional and comfy.

@MenagerieMama: do you have a local Babywearing group? There might be a momma there willing to sell you one. My mum bought me a custom one. I thought I would only us it at the house but it is my go to easy up carrier.

I found mine (a Maya wrap) at a church sale, but there are even tutorials online to make them!

I like my SPB ringsling but hershop is currently closed. I've heard great things about Sakura Bloom!

@MenagerieMama: look into sleeping baby productions or on the Babywearing swap for a used tablecloth ring sling or DIY mahogny tablecloth ring sling tutorial They're cheap but high quality, though I only used ours for extended periods of time before 18-20lbs.

@MenagerieMama: I bought a new one (a Girasol and then had it converted) and it took a long time to break in and get super soft and slide easily. So if you can buy used, do!
