While I would love to use the photographer we used for our family photos last time, I can't spend $125 right now on family photos (our photographer's mini session rate). So, I'm thinking Sears, JC Penny or somewhere else that does photos. Suggestions?

TARGET! I always get coupons and they have really cute backgrounds. I've used them at least 4 times now and have always been happy with the photos. They have a good selection of props and i've brought my own in too. Not every location has a photo department though

I've seen great photos from jcp. They often have groupons available. We use Picture People, also with groupon. Check living social too.

@Chillybear: I got all excited for a minute there until I realized Target doesn't seem to have any Portrait Studios in my state!

I used Picture People (inside Buy Buy Baby) last year for Christmas- had a groupon deal ($16 for sitting fee for 1 pose and pictures). They were great, and saw a bunch of groupon deals this morning.

We have also used Portrait Innovations. The one thing I didn't like about them (and it might have been specific to our location) is they didn't keep their appointment times. They take great photos (and a lot of them!) but they run way over their schedule. It's not much fun to have to wait (for an hour) with a little one. Hopefully it was specific to our location though (and they are now closed!).
