LO's summer wardrobe is getting really tough to put together! I am on the hunt for some good shorts for him. He is 18 months old, tall and skinny. However, most of his height is in his torso--his legs are kind of short. So most shorts seems to hit too far down on the leg for him. I"m looking for shorts that hit right above the kneecap and have a slimmer fit. I"ve tried Old Navy 12-18 months and they're too long and a bit too big in the waist...Gap same thing. Thanks!

My LO is the same, but not tall haha. He is skinny and what height he does have is in his torso. I've just been buying him a smaller size. I bought some 18 mo. shorts at Target and they are huge. I have some jumping bean brand that are 18 mo. and they fit pretty well. They don't fall off and aren't too long. Other than that I've been buying him 12 mo at target/children's place, etc.

I've been sewing elastics in his pants to combat the issues, but I realize that's a pain for a lot of people.
Some other brands are Childrens Place and Gymboree. I've had really good luck with Gymbo.

@Hilsy85: Have you tried Carters? Those worked well for my tall and skinny guy last summer! Haven't bought any of this season's shorts yet, but I'm happy with their 24m size cargo pants (cuffed at the moment).

@Beehive: I haven't tried them for bottom just tops, bc I feel like the pants are really wide so not sure if the shorts would work. But will take a look!

@Beehive: how is the 24 month on the waist (how much does j weigh? L was almost 24lbs on Tuesday appt).

@hilsy85: Hmm, I'll need to check - I think our nanny has put him in the 24 month pants but I haven't seen them yet. If you're doing shorts, maybe even stick with the 18 month. I'm actually not sure what J weighs at the moment.. our 18 month appt is in a couple weeks (late!)... I'll let you know!

I would look in the girls' section! You can always find gender neutral clothes in a slimmer fit there. Old Navy has really cute toddler girl bermuda shorts right now.

I have similar issues and had good luck with the 9-12 month H & M shorts at that age!

A has similar stats. He was almost 24 lbs at his 18 month check up but a little shorter than your guy at 33 inches. Carter's 12 month shorts actually fit pretty good. 18 month looks a little baggy on him but hopefully he'll grow into them a bit more by the end of summer. I was surprised his shorts from last summer still fit him!

I was going to suggest the girls department too, I can't remember for the life of me now where they were but I saw awesome girls bermuda length shorts in bright colors as well as basic khaki and navy. They were probably bigger kids sizes though because I was online shopping with a 6 year old. If I figure it out though I will let you know.

@hilsy85: Liam is wearing all his shorts from last year still! Shorts last longer because most toddlers are growing up, not out, and with shorts, it doesn't matter if they're a little shorter than last year, especially since now he doesn't have a big diaper butt.

Have you tried h&m?? I just ordered J a cute yellow pair online. They arrive next week so I can let you know how the fit is... j isn't as tall as L though! I have to look up his measurement from his appt this week

@hilsy85: I think he can still fit in some 6-12 months ones, but most are 12-18 and he just turned two. The 2T ones my MIL bought him for his birthday are way too big. He is 60th percentile for height and weight, too!

@hilsy85: They are often selling shirt/short sets on Amazon for like 20 bucks! Otherwise, I usually see the brand on the clearance racks at Bloomingdales. (I never have paid full price.)

My son is also wearing most of his shorts from last year too (12-18 months and a couple of 18-24). He has one pair of 2T shorts that slide right off!

My skinny guy is also wearing his 18-24 month shorts and he is 2.5 yrs old! The only 2t shorts that stay on his waist are children's place..

@scg00387: thanks! I just tried on the 18 month carters and the waist was good, the leg length was pretty good (a bit long), but the width of the leg was pretty big! It's not so bad, so I think I might keep a few pairs, but would definitely still look for more! I sometimes wish we did cloth, I think it would make his clothes fit better! Of course, He's also 3.5 lbs heavier than L

I really like Carter's shirts for my little guy. I only buy them on sale...they run sales ALL THE TIME. I try to get them around $10.

@hilsy85: I feel like the shorts that come in the two piece sets from Carter's are more slim than just the single shorts . I got these two sets for A in 18 months.
