What stores/brands have a good selection? I have zilch right now - just thinking ahead - he's not quite ready for clothes just yet!

Carter's fit DS well. I think we were gifted some from Gymboree too.

You should reach out to some local mom groups and see if you can get used preemie clothes. That's what I did.
As for clothes, BRU is kinda hit or miss. BBB had a small rack of preemie stuff. Carters might have a slightly bigger selection but not by much.
I haven't been to any other baby stores.

the old Navy size "up to 7 lbs" is my fave so far. LO was only 2 weeks early so not a real preemie, but he got as low as 5lbs 8ounces so most newborn sized clothing is still big on him.

I think gerber stuff also fits really small.

My mom found some good premie things at Sears. LO wasn't a premie but NB clothing is still too big for her. I've also found washed gerber onsies, not sleep n' plays, in nb size are tinier than Carters.
ETA: The brand that Sears carried was Little Wonders.

Largest selection of preemie would be carters.

Charters for sure. But it's possible you won't need them. My lo wore some preemie clothes in the NICU, some were ours, some were the NIcUs. It was nice to have a few to feel normal. But he went home in newborn clothes.

I second the reaching out to some local moms groups - my sister is a member of a moms of multiples group and they have several boxes of premie clothes that get passed around to members who need them.

I find Carter's fits most preemies the best. It fits leaner, which I like. Many brands are short/wide and that just doesn't work for preemies!!

Carter's seems to fit the very best on smaller babies. So many brands are short and wide - leaving pockets of air I think would leave baby feeling cold.
