our dog sheds - a LOT. and he has very long hair..almost as long as mine in some spots!
we have a Dyson DC23 Canister. It's great, but I'm constantly constantly trying to untangle his fur from the vac thing.
anyone have a vacuum recommendation? considering the Dyson Animal DC41.

I think the dyson (for animals) is great, and as far as suction goes, I think they are one of the top contenders next to a central vac system!

I have the Eureka pet Vac for my very long haired golden. It works really really well! It's not as expensive as the dyson.

We have a central vac but for quick and easy once a day pick ups the swiffer vac is amazing!

@sorrycharlie: We bought a mid-range Miele last summer, and when I compared it on Amazon to the Dyson it was a $60 difference. And I'm pretty sure that we bought ours from a different site from Amazon because we found a cheaper price.

@ElbieKay: I'm looking at the Dyson Animal that's on clearance at target...I think it's $419, then with my red card it would be $398. I just looked up the pet Miele and it's $600 - unless they're cheaper elsewhere! I'm a vacuum newb

I like my dyson a lot for picking up animal hair (and other crap). We actually got a refurbished one for like $250 or something like that. It works amazing on our couch too!
But my goldendoodle's fur does get wrapped around the spinning thing in the foot (if that technical description makes sense). It doesn't really affect how it sucks up the fur though. I usually just cut it off after a few months or so. The nice thing is you can pull the round thing out so it is much easier to clean off. It usually only take like 10 minutes at most.
If you have a choice get the ball. It is awesome...I never realized how much nicer it is to have than the "normal" vacuum turning system.

I have what you are thinking of getting and I love it! The only thing I don't like about it is the heaviness, but I'm just a wimp! While my dog has short hair, I love long hair and I shed a lot too and it has done a good job sucking EVERYTHING up for us!
