I was just using a wine stopper we got as a wedding favor. Probably the most useful favor we've ever gotten. Wish I had more! Runner up to that would probably by coasters. I loathe tealight candle holders. What to do with all of them?
We gave out full-sized teacups, scarves, and backpacks (as welcome bags) for our destination wedding. People still tell us/show us they use them.

I was going to say wine stopper, too. Our wedding gifts were gobbled up - they were toffee and chocolate from a local candy shop.

Edible ones. my favorite has been caramel apples and cookies.
for my wedding we gave out hugging dog salt and pepper shakers. My friends still use them.

I got homemade jam that the grandmother of the bride made from fresh local fruit. Holy crap. I still dream about it... yum!
I gave out pralines, so everyone was happy and gobbled them up.

I've been to lots of weddings with no favors. Like..the majority of weddings I've attended. Maybe it's a Texas thing not to have favors.
But since I'd seen so many favors on wedding blogs with favors, we had them both nights--they were both edible. But some guests got a little overzealous and swiped "extra" favors (off other tables!) so some of our guests didn't get them.
I'm a total pig so I like edible treats. =)

Our photobooth photos were favors; we had 400+ guests so I decided to go without.
Best favors I've gotten include home-made rice krispy treats (green tea flavor!) & tiny little succulent plants!

I hate little knick knacks I will never use and end up in the garbage. I wish the couple would have just saved their money.
I like food favors. Even if I don't like it, I can give it to someone who will eat and enjoy it.
I had s'mores kits at my wedding and a firepit outside so people could make them! They were a hit.

A piece of rainbow cookie cake. I also got to eat DH's (then fiancé) cake because he doesn't like rainbow cookies. It was pure bliss!

@psw27: that's awesome! That's what we had for favors our second night. Our family has a famous (to us) strawberry jam recipe and my mother made 150 mini jars of it, and packaged it really cutely.

We did a candy buffet at our Halloween (well, day before) wedding. Everyone loved it.
I agree with anything edible. The little knick knacks just end up in the trash.

@psw27: Yeah that sounds totally perfect!! They were pretty inexpensive to put together too (we bought the chocolate and graham crackers in bulk which saved a lot).

I kind of like it when people do the "donation in your honor" thing. That's what we did - donated to an animal rescue group.
I don't like getting little knickknacks that collect dust, especially things with the married couple's name and wedding date on it. No offense, but especially with people we aren't *that* close to, I mean...I'd rather use my nice, plain champagne glasses rather than frosted ones that say "Mike & Karen, 9-14-13" in a big heart, ya know? I've also noticed that people tend to leave little knickknack favors behind and then I feel bad because that's a waste of money for the hosts!
If people do include favors, I think edible is the way to go!
@shopaholic: We got a wine stopper as a favor once and I did think that was a useful favor, but then the decorative top part fell off a few months later!

Flip flops and/or slippers. They are super common at weddings here in Mexico and I always show up just WAITING for my comfy shoes to slip on and dance in!

We did a little photobooth where people could take a picture and then paste it inside our guestbook. They also got a copy to take home with them. I made cute frames that just said "All You Need Is Love" with no wedding reference. I see them on people's fridges when I visit their homes so hopefully they liked them!

I really like edible favors. We gave out cookies shaped like our wedding cake. For my shower we gave individually-boxed cupcakes. We got a bottle of Proseco as a favor at the last wedding we attended.

We did edible favors -- cookie and candy bar.
I don't think I've ever kept a knick-knack favor, so I prefer the edible ones or photobooth pictures or donations. A friend did really cute succulents, but we flew to the wedding so I couldn't imagine having to tote those back on the plane -- great idea but didn't work well with travel

I've never received a good "favor." I really like photobooths. Someone also handed out boxes of crispy creme donuts after their wedding. That was awesome.

we did a popcorn machine & fireworks display, i don't think a lot of people noticed the popcorn even though the DJ said something about grabbing some before making your way out for the fireworks. i throw all the little crap away from weddings, doesn't even make it home if it has the couple's names on there- really, did you think i'd forget who you are?? not a fan of people putting their names EVERYWHERE- matches, napkins, the dance floor, mints, candles- WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE, THAT'S WHY WE'RE HERE! one or two items i can get over, but some people go too far.
i like edible favors or useful ones or donations or none at all is fine with me!

We had candy bar & late night stadium style nacho bar & because it's a "tradition" in our area my DH made us have koozies as well. People in our area love them & always take a bunch so I guess they were a hit & I laugh when I see people using our koozie randomly years later.

We gave out "black and white" cookies as our favor. A lot of people were traveling so anything liquid was out of the question so we just went with edible!

We gave away Andes thin mint bars (a little bigger than the mini size ones) with wrappers that said "Mr. & Mrs B ~"mint" to grow old together. I've used shot glasses from 2 weddings a lot. I am not a fan tea light party favors either.

We did mini pies in mason jars. They were frozen, guests just needed to pop them in the oven.

I like edible favors! For ours, I made cookie mix in mason jars along with the recipe (which was basically "add an egg and bake") and we got a lot of compliments on that.

@mrs. bird: LOL! I have drinking glasses from a wedding and they have the couple's swirly fancy monogram on them. DH is always asking me "whose wedding is this from again?" when he drinks out of one.
We gave little potted plants (teeny ones) that doubled as place cards. A lot of people tell us they planted them in their gardens and they keep coming up every spring. There's some in my garden too.

@NorCalWayfarer: Something like a plant, etc, is hard. One wedding we went to, they had little pumpkins as favors. They weren't *that* little, more like medium-sized. People who had flown were kinda like...how are we supposed to carry pumpkins on the plane...?

Best one would have to be a small box of truffles. We didn't do favors at our wedding. Though, we had a groom's donut cake that was enjoyed throughout the dancing.

A mini metal watering can that was spraypainted antique white. I love using it to put my rings, pins, and bobby pins in when I take them off for the night.

I love edible favors. I basically don't even take favors home unless they're edible.
We did Swiss Army knife shaped chocolates. They were a huge hit.

Best one was a koozie. We still use it quite a bit. We had a candy bar as our favor and that was a huge hit. I feel like we did something else too but I can't remember what it was!
