It is news to me! Ugh, I think Beyonce and Jay Z are so obnoxious.

@regberadaisy: i had read that one. i understand that more i suppose. there are a lot of people looking to profit off celebrities ... but then why don't the rest of the celebrities do the same? has no one else thought to do that yet?

@RegberaDaisy: I think the best she can do is (to hope for) a trademark . . . a name doesn't meet the requirements for a patent/copyright.

@Andrea: and actually, trying to keep the name exclusive is also a way for Beyonce to profit off her own child (assuming the name does qualify for some kind of protection) . . .

At this point, I am kinda over Beyonce . . . I loved her as an artist, but the baby hype is just too much. What with the surrogate conspiracy and all (i have no judgment either way, but just own your choice, yo), I just don't get how this is really (continuous) national news? Initially, sure . . . but we have bigger and more important fish to fry. I realize that's true of all celebrities, . . . I digress.

@MrBee: You're right - I didn't even think about it. I was just looking at the name protection issue through my skeptical scope. I think I should have been more objective and big(ger) picture. . . on the whole, she really does seem to try to do the right thing(s).

They mentioned a half-million price tag... that seems like a high estimate to me, but what do I know about high-end minivans! I do know about PR though, and I'm sure Beyonce got a huge discount!

I wish that Beyonce's media team would set the record straight on stories like this, but she seems to have a policy of not responding to press speculation except in the most extreme circumstances. The New York tabloids have taken advantage of this to publish lots of terrible stories about her... I guess she just ignores it all?
