My mom got pregnant (with me) on the pill, and so did my cousin. My cousin was definitely on antibiotics and not warned that they can interfere. My mom thinks that's what happened to her, but she STILL didn't know about that until a couple years ago when I told her, so by then she didn't remember for sure if that's what happened.

I know a couple of people who got pregnant on the pill, but honestly, they are both seriously forgetful people, and I would be shocked if they really remember to take it every day, let alone at the same time every day.

Same as what @wonderstruck said. A few people have told me they did on the pill, but I think they failed to take it on time every day.

My cousin got pg on the pill. Again, she may not have been taking it properly, but she also has chron's and the doctors thought maybe that caused her body not to absorb it properly.

I have not. I think it's relatively uncommon if you take it correctly, unless you have other factors at play (antibiotics, for example), but I think most people mess it up. If you're concerned, you should use two methods (birth control and condoms) or move to one that is more effective and error proof. I'm also an asshole skeptic who think a lot of people go "oops i'm pregnant" because part of them didn't really want to not be pregnant, heh.

@TheSwissWifeStyle: I have a friend with Crohn's who has gotten pregnant on the pill twice! And she's a really anal retentive person so I trust that she really was taking it properly!
I'm currently pregnant and we were using the timing method. We got a little free and loose with it though. It was very effective for us for many years.

@Truth Bombs: oh wow! I wonder why more docs don't warn their patients about this then!?

I was "on the pill" when I got pregnant but I did miss two pills. I naively thought that because I had not had a cycle in over 3 years, I couldn't get pregnant. Nope.
I agree with the above comments, I don't think it happens often (or at all) if taken correctly.

My mum had four kids, only one was planned. She and my dad either seriously messed up or were seriously unlucky with condoms once and the pill twice. My sisters also had two each on the pill.

We were using the pull out method/ condoms, but I know exactly why it didn't work. I don't blame the method, I blame user error.

I have a friend that has a 4 yr old and her spouse pulled out. But I guess one little sperm got out early.

I got pregnant on the pill twice. My dr said my body didn't absorb the hormones properly. I took them every day, same time, same beverage and amount of beverage, no other medications. My OB says he hates my body. Allergic to the patch and shot, rejected the IUD, pregnant on the pill. He said my arm implant is our last hope for preventing minus the permanent measures. So far so good!
I just wondered if anyone else had a pain in the butt body.

@littleblessings: i never have but my mum got pregnant with my younger bro on the iud.

If you have issues with all other forms of BC, then there is no way I would chance it. We would use condoms every single time as well.

When I was young and could not chance having a pregnancy at ALL, I used birth control pills and condoms, every single time.

@blackbird: @lawbee11: @Smurfette: we use condoms now. Lol.
@Emilia80: my body rejected the IUD after 6 months

I had a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage sadly from a condom fail. We were newly married and totally not ready or wanting kids yet. It was a bit of a roller coaster in emotions

@littleblessings: so are you back together with your son's father?

@Truth Bombs: ehhh we are talking things over and trying to work things out. We didn't talk about things before, for fear of upsetting the other person. That is one of the reasons why the relationship failed. We are taking things super slow and talking through things.

I do several forms if I am not seeking pregnancy. Not to be graphic but in the simplest terms: no cum inside means no possible pregnancy. So before I was married I did condoms and pill and pull out. All of it!

I was also going to mention condoms...if I'm in a situation where I absolutely do not want another baby we double up BC. Right now it would be a disaster for me to get pregnant, so I'm on the pill plus we use condoms.
Stories about vasectomies failing despite the guy passing the follow-up tests terrify me, because that will be what we do when we decide we're 100% sure about no more kids.

I have my two month old courtesy of a failed IUD. When a baby is meant to be, they'll do whatever it takes to get here, including wrestling a Mirena!
clementine / 806 posts
never had a failure, but we used condoms for the early years of our marriage in addition to the pill. (just to be "extra safe") My best friend thought I was insane!

@Mrs. Jacks: Ack scary! I just got Mirena and I'm 12 weeks PP so a pregnancy would be pretty much devastating to me! I know any method could fail but seeing it in black and white is terrifying! Maybe we should be using something else too...

My understanding is the mini pill is far more sensitive to the timing then regular pills.
Nuva Ring isn't on here but I know a few ring babies too. The ring supposedly has less room for error because there isn't any timing. The main concern is it falling out. But I think there's a big window for it being out and I can't imagine it falling out much other then maybe during sex.
I didn't like how Nuva ring messed up my period for 4 months when I was only on it 2.

I was a bc fail.. and I have multiple friends and family members who had bc fail's too. Mostly the pill. My cousin had to switch from one pill to another pill for ins reasons and was ku'd with twins a month later...

@MrsHansen82: it's more than 99% effective. I think you are just fine and baby Theo was really meant to be! He was conceived within a week of my miscarriage and we all believe that he was working really hard to try and get to us!
pineapple / 12053 posts
Most oops babies I know were timing issues. So user error not a failure necessarily.

I got pregnant with my third while we were using condoms (nothing else). Still to this day have no idea what went wrong.
eggplant / 11287 posts
@FaithFertility: yep. I didn't even find out I was KU until I was more than 6 weeks along (I gues that's still early, but I found out at 8 DPO with my others) becuase I did not even think it was a remote possibility. I tested because I randomly started throwing up and had a test on hand. To say I was blindsided is an understatement!
What's even crazier is that with my EDD, I would have had to have gotten pregnant during the week I was on my period (which we didn't DTD during that time). So, the whole situation is a mystery. Not sure when or how it happened!
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
@Rainbow Sprinkles: That is beyond bizarre! How crazy. Well, I know have no doubt that this new little one was meant to be considering all the odds it beat. Are you going to find out the gender? Any inkling?
