James!
There were reports that they named her Violet, but E! is reporting that they actually named her James.

I voted Ewwwh. I don't like it as a first name for a girl.

Did they confirm it? I don't really mind the name for a girl, but I wouldn't choose it myself.

@Leialou: No. She'll probably be walking and talking before they confirm anything!

Wouldn't be my first, second, or third pick for a girl, but the precedent has been set by actress James King.

I definitely don't hate it, but I do like the name James for a boy's name. I'm not sure about it for a girl's name. I like the name Ryan for a girl's name. I would love to hear what her full name is. So I'm indifferent about it.

I think it's perfect for them. James is a gender neutral name in my opinion, as are Blake and Ryan!

I don't mind it! I think it's cute...I'm just glad they didn't use Violet bc I am loving that for a girl name!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think James is just a nn she goes by. Her real name is Jaime.
@mediagirl: Really? James is still in the firmly boy camp for me. I love it for a boy, but not for a girl. Though I'm not surprised given that her name is Blake and it's very trendy to give girls boy names right now.

@lawbee11: yep, her real name is Jaime. I think of her when I hear the name James, too though!

James has become VERY popular here for a girl's middle name, however I've never heard it for a first. I'm not sure on this one...I'm on the fence. I'm totally on board as a middle but I don't know if I'm sold as a first.

Not a fan of it on a girl as a first name. I like it as a boy name though.

James is a boy name for me...and I'm not a huge fan of the trend of just about every boy name becoming unisex.

Daring. I like it! Prob wouldn't pick it myself though. Curious is Mrs. Jacks will weight in!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: That's what I thought, too, and I liked when she was James!

@lawbee11: @mediagirl: oh, well that bit of news just dropped her cool factor.
@LuLu Mom: as a middle name I like it, but then again i like Charles or Wesley for girl middle names too.

Not my favorite for a little girl, because her whole life she is going to have to correct people that James Reynolds is a girl not a boy. And yes, Jamie King is Jamie King now, she doesn't do the James thing anymore.

I don't really like it. It's not as awful as some celebrities names but James is solidly masculine to me.

Well, it’s not as cringe-worthy as Christina Aguilera’s daughter “Summer Rain”, but I don’t like it. So twee to give girls super masculine names, and while some boy’s names work for girls, IMO James just isn’t one of them.
@psw27: Agreed. I know an adult woman named Michael, and it’s nothing but a constant headache of correcting people that she is a woman and not a man, and after that that her name is in fact Michael and not Michelle.

@yoursilverlining: remember this actress from ER? Michael Michele. I wonder if she used her first and middle together all the time.
hostess / wonderful persimmon / 25556 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: @yoursilverlining: any chance you say her name Mak-hail?
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@yoursilverlining: Oh no :S We are planning on using Michael as DD's middle name...I hope she doesn't constantly have to correct people. It has such a significance to us that I'm not willing to not use it but I hope people don't assume!!

More "ehh" than "eww", but it could definitely be worse!

Well after a girl Wyatt and a girl Maxwell being born, it's only natural for the next Hollywood baby girl to be named James!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I think I'm the only person who didn't watch ER! @mediagirl: Nope, it's Michael (just like the boy's name). My name has a "girl" and "boy" version (similar to Michael/Michelle) and I have a hell of a time with people defaulting to the boy version; I can only imagine how frustrating it would be if my name actually was the boy version! @LuLu Mom: I think middle is ok, because that's not commonly used in every day situations. First though, I think is rough!
@loveisstrange: face palm. There are so many horrible celeb names.

@lawbee11: psh crazy talk. Boy names are only acceptable to give girls, not the other way around
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@yoursilverlining: I grew up a Jessie, not Jessica...so people always assumed 1) it was spelled the boy way or 2) it was a nickname I hated it. My insurance company had me down as a male for like 4 years, we tried to changed it EVERY Time we picked up a prescription..never worked. I figured masculine middle name is okay. Heck my daughter is Emerson, it's 50/50 with doctor office's using male pronouns!

I pushed and pushed for our daughter's middle name to be James, but my husband liked Jane better. I love James as a girl's name, but not as a boy's name!

@blackbird: Ha! Is it hipster? Am I SO Portland, I just don't even know it?!?
Whenever someone names their kid "Sailor Sage", I am pulling the giant Hipster Card, but this seems kind of classic.
