Hellobee Boards

I was kind of both. I wore only dresses and loved playing with my dolls and Barbies, but I ran around and played with bugs in the dirt and my brother's Transformers as well. I think my daughter will kind of be the same. Right now she's two and her favorite things are robots, dinosaurs, babies, and rainbows.

I consider myself pretty girly, but I was definitely a mixture growing up. My only sibling was an older brother, and he wouldn't play with dolls or play house with me, so I tended to play with a lot of "boy" toys with him, like Transformers and Ninja-Turtles.

I was an absolute tomboy growing up. My parents had a tire shop and I worked there from the time I could roll rims out to the junk pile. I'd climb trees, get grubby, whatever. However, I also knew how to wear a dress.
One memory I have is from when I was about 13. We'd gone to church and I was in a skirt and heels. When we got to the shop (an emergency), I went to help take a tire off of a car and found that it was too uncomfortable in heels, so I kicked them off and my dad came by and got onto me for ripping my nylons, still, got the tire off!
Now I'm pretty girly. I'll get my hands dirty if I have to, but I'd rather dress up and go for tea or make jewelry.

I'm a mix of both and I would probably raise a daughter the same way. You can be tough and play sports and have fun with the boys, but you can also play barbies, dress-up and wear make-up (when you turn 30).

I was a tomboy growing up because of my older brother and us being very close. He taught me how to use a baseball glove and catch balls just so that we could play together. He made me be goalie and padded me up just so that he could shoot (soft) pucks at me. I woke his hand-me-downs until I was in high school! HIGH SCHOOL! That's when I realized I was a girl. Now, I *try* to be girly-girl but ultimately fall back into my tomboy ways. With my daughter, she will play sports and go camping and totally rough it but also enjoy quiet play times with dolls (like I did) and be curious about makeup (like I was).

I was a tomboy growing up; I always wanted to fit in with all the guys. I'm starting to embrace my girly side and look forward to one day being a little girly with any future daughter I may have. I want any of my children to do the things they enjoy, whatever direction (feminine or masculine) it takes them.
