A lot of the books geared towards dad's treat them like morons. It's littered with sexist gender role stereotypes that I'd like minimized.
What are some top book choices for a Dad to be?
DH will probably only get through one or two but it doesn't have to exclusively cater to men.

I got the 'Expectant Father' one. My DH is a SAHD so I wanted something for him.

Not dad-specific but my DH really liked Baby 411, Heading Home with your Newborn, and any sleep-related books (he read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems on our babymoon).

Happiest Baby on the block and the birth partner are two that my SO read before our baby. Good For both parents

Well, what type of information are you looking for? Child birth? Caring for an infant? I don't think it has to be father specific.

I'm not looking for anything specific. DH isn't a big reader, so whatever he reads, I want it to contain good information without all spending too much time on sifting through the sexism etc.

If he's not much of a reader then try the DVD for Happiest Baby on the Block. I read the book then watched the video with DH and it's the same information.

dH really got into Happiest Baby and credits it for his excellent baby soothing skills. He also enjoyed Baby Owners manual for practical info since he had never taken care of a baby. It looks silly but the info is actually quite good

My husband found the happiest baby on the block DVD the best for him. We both are scientists so I'd find fun stats or articles on the science of pregnancy, birth, nursing, etc. and pass them along to him whenever they popped up.

DH loved Bringing up Bebe which is a memoir. He also read The Birth Partner.

I liked Happiest Baby, but it's a library checkout to me. The Birth Partner was the bomb, great for my husband, and I'd suggest to buy it. We highlighted in it, took notes, and brought it to the hospital. Plus I used it as a refresher for LO2.

Cleaning out our book case and I came across this. I'm not sure what your definition of condescending is (because I honestly think it is opinion based) but my husband found this very helpful. He is an engineer and in IT and a tech nut. This book is geared towards his way of thinking. And he had never even held a baby until our son was born. So he did need some deeper explanation and examples. It has a lot of "diagrams" and it is sort of humorous. But I didn't find it to be humorous in a degrading way. But the way they relate babies to technology was clever, I thought. It's just very practical and simple and to the point. And it really is useful information about safe cosleeping, overtiredness, helping mom get some rest, etc.
Anyway, it's called Baby Owners Manual and I included a couple pics so you can decide. It probably depends on your husbands way of thinking. My husband is very 0's and 1's and doesn't want a lot of fluff.
