Just found out our (DH side) niece who just started first grade is quite into reading nowadays.
Any great recos? I want to send her some books for fun and as part of their Xmas gift.
Her sister is in K so of course I have to get her a book as well!

are you looking for chapter books or picture books? i'm guessing if she's doing the reading, you're looking for chapter books. junie b jones, judy moody, ivy & bean are all good series for little girls.

Mo Willems books are great for that age, especially Elephant and Piggie. There aren't a lot of words on the pages, so it makes it a little easier for beginning readers! The stories are funny/entertaining/sweet, so I know a lot of kids that age really love them.

Kevin Henkes is an awesome childrens book author - I loved his books between the ages of 4-7.
Angelina Ballerina is a darling book, especially if your niece is girly or at all interested in dance. I know you can buy the book with a ballerina mouse doll, as a set, if that's the kind of thing you'd like to gift.
Berenstain Bears are still available, and still totally awesome!

My DD also likes the Learn to Read/Early Reader books.. Cam Jansen is another cute series and they have a "Young Cam Jansen" series for early readers..

They have all sorts of them - some popular shows & characters too, if she has a fav show!

Pup and Pop I'd say are a little more for kindergarten and Mo Willems is a HUGE hit with the first graders...Its easy for them to read.
