I haven't used it for real yet, but I got a boppy. It seems more versatile since you can let the baby lounge on it when you're done.

i've used both and FAR preferred the brest friend!! a million times over.

Boppy probably seems great until you use a Brest Friend. I too thought a boppy would be more versatile but as soon as we started nursing I hated it! It would push off my hips when I'd sit and create a gap that LO could fall into. I used a friend's Brest Friend and it was awesome! And I thought well at least I could use my boppy for tummy time and propping to sit. Nope! LO hated it! I just gave away my boppy and am getting a BF next time around.

I love my brest friend - I had a c section and it was great. I stayed where I put it and stayed snug to me so I could focus more on positioning LO (and not worrying about the pillow moving).

Other! I liked both...
I felt like the brest friend was essential in the first 3-4 months when the baby is teeny tiny and can't hold himself up yet because the brest friend is so firm... but after the early months, the boppy was great, and I used the boppy until I weaned at 14 months.
The boppy didn't offer enough support though in the early months when breastfeeding was just getting established - both DD and DS would fall into this gap between my belly and the pillow, and it got frustrating having to reposition it all the time. I liked that the brest friend snapped shut with a clasp and baby couldn't go anywhere. I also often had to use the bathroom in the hour-long nursing sessions of the early days, so it was easy with the brest friend to just walk to the bathroom with a still nursing baby and do my thing, since the pillow was already snapped shut against my waist. Sorry my thoughts are a jumbled mess!
I wrote a whole post on the two pillows if you want a side by side comparison - http://www.hellobee.com/2013/07/05/nursing-pillow-showdown-boppy-vs-my-brest-friend/

Same as @Mrs. High Heels:. I love having both. The My Brest Friend was essential for nursing a newborn. But the boppy is much more versatile for the later months.

@californiadreams: @Mrs Spoon: exactly this.
I found the boppy to never stay where I needed it to be, even with a second pillow under it, it was always sliding away and J was falling in between.
MBF was what all the LCs recommended that I have spoken to. I ended up buying one after two weeks of frustration. BIG sigh of relief. Keeps baby horizontal in the right position and close to you. (Side note, but I also like to keep a little nail file in the pocket to snag his ever-growing nails while he's calm.) No need to make the first days of nursing any harder, in my opinion.

I preferred my brest friend for breastfeeding, it had way more support for me and DS. I liked the boppy though for DS to lounge in and for support if I was giving him a bottle.

Hm, to update, I am only 6 weeks in…. so I can't comment on the later months like @Mrs. High Heels: and @MamaMoose:

I never used the Breast Friend, but we still use the Boppy at almost 15m, so I definitely think it's a better value. I didn't BF for long, but I did use the Boppy when I did. I also used the Boppy for bottles, propping, tummy time, etc. She still likes to use it as a pillow when she's lying on the floor watching a movie.

Other- I used neither. I just popped a regular pillow under her. Worked perfectly!

I got both as gifts, I've never used the Boppy. The My Brest Friend works great for us for hands-free nursing. Maybe I'll start introducing the Boppy for other things now that she's almost 4 months.

ok, well after reading some replies, i will add that i only used a pillow for the early months of nursing and i hated the boppy for it for all the reasons @Mrs. High Heels: said. The brest friedn was definitely crucial for nursing a newborn!
I can't speak for after the early months as i just stopped using a pillow altogether once i didn't need the brest friend anymore. It sounds like the boppy has other uses though.

I say both. Loooooved My Brest Fruend for the first few months, it was all I could use. Now, from about 4 months to now (6 months), I only use the Boppy.

Same as @californiadreams: -- MBF was a lifesaver early on but we learned to nurse without a pillow as soon as we could. I was glad we got the Boppy secondhand because we found it pretty useless.

i got both because so many ladies on HB said they used them at different stages. haven't used them yet though!

I loved My Brest Friend. It was suggested to us during our LO's first peds visit when my milk didn't come in right away. It was one of the best purchases we made. DH used the Boppy for bottle feeding because it was comfortable for him. So both, but My Brest Friend is my personal fave.

Interesting! Thank you for the opinions, everyone. Looks like I'll be adding both to my registry!

I had both. The Boppy was a gift and it sucked in the beginning with breastfeeding. It wasn't comfortable and I felt like it made things worse so I ended up ordering My Breast Friend. I LOVE THAT THING. I used it for about 5-6 months and we used the Boppy as a place to put LO down on the couch occasionally. When she got bigger I would use the Boppy to nurse.

I used both. I used the boppy during the day on the couch and the MBF at night. I think the MBF gave me more stability when I was a bit sleepy but I really liked the boppy too. I used it for much longer and for more things than just BFing. And maybe I'm just lazy but I would recommend two. I had one for the living room and one for the bedroom/nursery. There was no way I was going to remember to take it with me and this was even before we had the house and lived in a 800 sf condo.

@Littlebit: How tall are you? I'm pregnant and haven't had a baby yet but my girlfriend who is the same height as me (we are both 6'0!!) said the boppy isn't enough for tall women.
coconut / 8234 posts
@MRSJX3: I agree. I am 5'7" so not as tall, but I loved that I could strap My Breast Friend on higher up and that it stayed in place!

@Littlebit: I have both and I love the mbf for nursing and the boppy for lo. She liked it to prop up with when playing and not rolls around on it when playing. Mbf was great for me when nursing because lo was on the same level and I have a large chest. I needed something to support her when I was nursing.
nectarine / 2932 posts
@MRSJX3: Pretty short, 5'2! So I don't think that'll be an issue. Just want something that's comfy and does the job well!

Haven't used MBF but at 4 weeks with the boppy and I can't stand it! Like others said, the gap it annoying and it always needs repositioning!

I have the pillow I linked to below and I LOVE it. It has 3 different pieces so you can change it as your baby grows. Been using it over 7 months and I love it as much now as I did when I first started using it.

I did not like MBF at all. It hurt my back. Ended up with a Boppy and liked that a lot better. Though for #2 I may get a Gia or a Luna Lullaby pillow.

I didn't use either for BF, neither worked for us. then again BF didn't work for us. I voted Boppy though- I returned the MBF because it has no use if not for BF, but we use the Boppy as a support for her when sitting, or laying, etc.

Neither, honestly I liked using a normal pillow better. Less bulky!

Both were given to me as hand me downs & I was not a fan of My Brest Friend. I definitely prefer the boppy!

MBF was amazing at first when she was so little. Now at 7 months I prefer the Boppy.
