@knittylady: wow. The rest of their family seems to be very cooperative for police, I've heard things from the father & an uncle. I hope they were just two crazy brothers rather than two people trained here by others to carry out these acts.

I wish they would stop posting the guy's picture... don't give him the satisfaction of getting the attention....

@BabyBoecksMom: I think they kind of have to while he's still at large, though...They probably want people to be able to recognize him should they encounter him.
watermelon / 14206 posts
@BabyBoecksMom: @MrsSCB: Yeah, when they're looking for someone, they need to get a picture out as much as possible. Once he's detained, they should stop posting it, though.

Well, looks like one of the brothers is dead and the other is in a standoff. I don't know that we'll ever have great answers on the "why" of it I mean one of them won a scholarship for civic involvement last year.
So so sad for the victims!

@knittylady: I just saw where there was a phone interview with someone who went to HS with him. They said he was 100% normal, had lots of friends, etc...Said she immediately recognized him when seeing his pic on the news before going to bed but just thought it must be a crazy coincidence, and then she woke up to mass hysteria and finding out he's a murderer!
pomelo / 5257 posts
@PrincessBaby: I heard that interview too. I'm a little suspicious that they're brothers now -- that girl who was in school with him said she didn't even know he had a brother...That just seems odd, seeing as they're 19 and 20 I believe.
bananas / 9628 posts
@MrsSCB: the youngest was 19, the older brother was 26, so not surprising that he'd be away when the younger was in high school. They said the older had an engineering degree.
pomelo / 5257 posts
@mrs. bird: Well there goes that theory! It just seems weird, like this came out of nowhere. Another acquaintance of the guy who is still at large said that he was normal, everyone loved him, and she is TOTALLY shocked. Kind of scary...

My town is on lockdown. No leaving the house. This is so beyond words.
We are ok, just anxious.

@winniebee: Glad to know you are safe. This is horrible. I have an aunt in Watertown and she lives alone because her husband is in an alzheimer's facility. I'm sure this is very scary for everyone up there.

@winniebee: Glad to hear y'all are okay.
Thinking of other Boston bees... Hope to hear good news from them soon. This is wild.

@MrsSCB: they had the high school guidance counselor on earlier, she couldn't have had nicer things to say about him. I guess you just never know.

Ughhh poor @winniebee, haven't you been through enough this week??
DH left for work before hearing the news, now he's on lockdown in Boston. I'm so stressed out about this. I used to live in Watertown, we got married there, right next to where the police are all set up!

@winniebee: oh so grateful you are okay!
Hoping to hear that the rest of the Boston bees are safe.

It is crazy here this morning. Luckily we live just outside the city, but it's the whole town is dead. No traffic on the highway, barely any cars in the parking lot at work. I had no idea what was going on until I got in the car this morning and turned on the radio.
pomelo / 5257 posts
And apparently they're now looking for two suspects, not just that one. The second has not been identified.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@PrincessBaby: Yeah, 2 of my good friends from HS worked the past two summers with him as lifeguards at Harvard.... Both said he was a nice quiet guy. It must be so hard to wrap your head around...

Now CNN says he could be in Honda cry on his way to manhattan. This is just nuts! Things are just getting thrown out there.
pomegranate / 3212 posts
@littlek: I don't know them but have friends that do... Also the woman who was killed on monday is the cousin of a childhood friend. It's very weird to be 2 degrees of separation away from so much of this. It's unreal.
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Mrs. Jacks: There's no standoff. The other suspect is on the run.

IF this weren't crazy enough, my brother's wedding is in NH tomorrow. I'm supposed to be on the road in a few hours. Oh, and my FSIL's wedding dress is at a shop in Watertown. She was supposed to pick it up today....guess that's not happening! Trivial details, of course.
honeydew / 7488 posts
@winniebee: oh wow. This is crazy. Can't believe about your FSiL's dress too. I used to live in Watertown so this is surreal.

I was up last night around midnight (West Coast time) and saw it unfold on the news/Internet a bit. An MIT campus officer was shot and killed... It started a car chase/car jacking... there was a standoff... A lot of shooting and the two suspects threw two bombs at the police. Unreal!! One suspect was shot and the other fled... They were searching homes in Watertown when I went to sleep. Crazy! I hope they find this guy soon... And no more bloodshed please!
One commentator mentioned that perhaps the MIT officer was shot because he could have possibly been the one to first identify the suspects... Up until then, just their pictures were being released.
Very sad... Praying for everyone in Boston!!!

they're saying there is a bomb on arsenal street. i've been streaming the news since 430 this morning, i can't walk away.
coconut / 8472 posts
@mrs. bird: I just can't believe all this. Before I bought my house I lived in Boston and was in the Watertown Panera and Target on Arsenal St. pretty much every single weekend with DH.

I am praying for all our Boston bees. I hope this is all over soon and you and your loved ones are all safe.

@mrs. bird: @MrsCB: so insane The Commanders Mansion (part of the Arsenal) is where I got married. DH and I lived down the street at the time. I hope this is over soon.

@winniebee: they thought they had him isolated to a building at one point. Clearly a very fluid situation!

Thinking of all the Boston bees and those with loved ones in the area.
I haven't been able to follow much of this. I was at work last night when the FBI briefing happened and the closed captions on the TV make it impossible to follow along so I just saw pictures were released. When I got in the car this morning I heard how Boston was on lock down.

I am outside the city as well, but it is very surreal out here. I had to fly out of Logan for a business trip on Tuesday morning and there was a HUGE police escort behind me on the highway, and the airport was littered with marathon runners. Police were there asking them what they saw and if they had pictures. My neice and nephew were there and saw it all unfold. They were on their way to watch the runners and then decided to pop into Nike Town - just a minute before the explosion. They know how lucky they were, and are still dealing with all they saw.
I am at work in Providence, RI right now and am really nervous. No one knows where this guy is right now and he could easily be heading South.
It is really surreal to have all this happening so close to home. I am so thankful my loved ones are safe, and mourn the loss of the victims and the law enforcement officers who have been hurt as well. I am proudly wearing my marathon colors today!
Glad the other Boston bees are all ok as well. @Winniebee, I feel for your SIL and hope she is able to get her dress. Stay safe.

@SAHM0811: I'm on the west coast, too, and I got the news alert about the MIT campus shooting last night.. I thought it was unrelated from Boston marathon bombing. I was thinking before I went to bed that Its a bad week for Massachusetts.

Ugh, I have such a pit in my stomach. Especially because it appears the boys are Muslim, and I know it is going to ignite so much hatred and division in our country... We have a vaguely Muslim last name and I wish so badly our kids didn't have to live in a world with that prejudice, or with this kind of violence or terror at all. So heartbreaking.
